I’m going to gone head and give it 5 reviews despite the rude unprofessional person running the counter today around 3pm. My first experience with this place was awesome. Food was great and the person who served me my order was even greater. Unfortunately I can’t say the same for today. While in line waiting for my food the cashier had screamed extremely loud rude “mame are you here for a pick up?” I didn’t hear him so he said it louder with an even ruder tone I replied yes. I got to the counter and everything about his attitude and the way he handled me was ridiculous l. I politely asked him was the order ready and he rudely responded yeah but I had to take care of him first. Referring to the customer before me as if I was not aware of that. The customer before me took a while but I was not complaining nor gave off the energy I was bothered. I replied are you having an okay day because your customers service sucks. He replied very nasty I have control over me when you have control you don’t act out as if he was responding to his insecurities instead of me. I decided not to purchase the food and left because what society fail to realize today is that we people out here work very hard for our money nobody wants to give money to people who don’t respect them. Secondly if the person handling your food had bad energy the food is going to be nasty. When people cook with love you taste the love. I said all this to say that if the guy was the owner he does a poor job with customers if he was an employee he needs to be trained how to deal with people. Everyone is not from Arizona and is not going to deal with the disrespect because that’s what y’all used to. I was embarrassed and ashamed at how this grown black man handled me. It’s sad to say if I was white I probably would have gotten a different treatment. Everybody that’s young and black are not on drugs and you can’t treat people as such. Please take this review as a criticism to help your business prosper in the future. I wish the best and hopefully my next...
Read moreAlright soo I spent about $30 here March 10th, 2021 and kept forgetting to write the review. I came here based off of a recommendation from my friend who had eaten here prior (she also ordered door dash this exact day and they forgot to give the DD driver her lemonade she tried to get me to bring her). Well I was highly unsatisfied & I was sad about that because I love soul food. I’m originally from California & my mom is from Louisiana soo a great soulfood spot is an absolute must. I got a rib and hotlink plate I didn’t care for the barbecue sauce it was smothered in but I naturally don’t care for barbecue sauce anyway so that’s nothing against them the hotlinks were good not too spicy but they had a kick. The collard greens were all right I had to add a little bit more seasoning which they lacked. The potato salad was decent it had a little bit too much Mayo for my liking or it may have been miracle whip because it had a sweeter taste to it. (I prefer mayonnaise over miracle whip). The yams were to my liking not too sweet, the macaroni was the biggest disappointment to me. The texture the taste were way off mark. I’m known for my great Mac n cheese and if anything should be right in the soul food establishment it should be the macaroni and cheese. Firstly my macaroni was sweet why on earth was my mac & cheese sweet no idea. Secondly it’s like no substantial flavor was used I tasted no butter not even a pinch of salt or garlic it was plain sweet and bland. I had to add a pinch of garlic salt. I was disheartened. The muffin, peach cobbler, candied yams, & the greens I would buy again maybe I’d try the chicken but I’d never buy the...
Read moreI was in the Phoenix area yesterday and since I don't live in the area and it was almost time for lunch. I decided on soul food... So, here comes Google to the rescue. I decided on Off Da Hook because it was 7min away from where I was. I read maybe one or two reviews of which one was a negative experience by another diner.
I got there, I was greeted by Tracy... I think that's his name. He was outside preparing a grill for some BBQ jerk chicken I later found out. The outside looked dingy but as the saying goes, don't always judge a book by it cover or a man by the color of his skin.
I walked in and was greeted by another man by the name of Stacey. I told him I will be dinning in. I sat by the door... Tracey brought me a mason jar for my drink and they had 3 different flavors of Kool-Aid. As I browsed the menu... I wasn't sure what to get but the smothered chicken sounded good to me. I got my drink when Stacey came to get my order.
I saw the Gumbo and asked him if it was slimy and he said no... And will bring me a sample which he did. My oh my, let my tell you, it was delicious and probably the bed gumbo I have ever had!
I ordered the smothered chicken which comes with rice, Mac&cheese and some yams. Then some friend chicken to go.
When my food finally arrived, I was in awe of the portion size, HUGE!!!! Well worth the money and fair. But the guys are good at what they do and the customer service was great!
I will eat here again, recommend to friends or anyone really craving some good soul food and will bring my...
