My brother and his first wife invited me to try his favorite burger place. I hesitated because he has the palate of a parakeet. He has never tasted avocados or beans! After navigating ADOTâs decades-long freeway construction labyrinth near the restaurant and nearly driving off an unfinished section of road at into a river bottom at 65 MPH, I pulled into to the neighborhood. I thought I had inadvertently driven onto the set of Sanford & Son, as this is certainly not your typical area for a restaurant. The exterior of the building looked like a feed store from the 1940s. The interior and decor struggled for an identity and theme. Perhaps, âIf Noahâs Ark had been built in El Salvador.â Notably, this is where the oddities end and they get down to business. At the suggestion of our waitress, I ordered a burger that was half beef and half chorizo. Itâs called the Texican. It has pepper jack cheese, a sweet sauce, and avocados. It is served on a pretzel bud. It was phenomenal! My brotherâs first wife ordered a cheesesteak sandwich. I did not try it, but it looked great. She said it was âmissing something.â (That is exactly how she describes their anniversary weekends.) I tried a little chunk of my brotherâs burger, and the seasoning was just amazing. I will...
Read moreAs soon as we started to order I knew I was going to like it here. I asked Janette about their chili. She offered me a sample before ordering it. It was delicious and Janette was an awesome waitress. The place was busy, but we got our food quickly and as Janette passed by checking on her other tables she was checking on our drinks and any other needs.
The Open Faced Roast Beef was good and the gravy was really good. The Mashed Potatos were outstanding.
The Texican was a good burger and I added an egg to it. The Tater Tots were really good also.
We returned today to try their breakfast. Both the Chicken Fried Steak and the Western Omelets were delicious. The western omelet was a "cowboy chili with beans" and chese omelet topped with green chili.
The Chicken Fried Steak was good. Both the eggs and hash browns were cooked perfectly. The marble rye was really good and the pancakes are nearly as big as the plate. They were nice and fluffy w/ a hint of vanilla.
The best part of all was the service. You get your food fast and Janette has quickly become one of my favorite waitresses Her service alone makes it worth going there. Having great...
Read moreIf you want a good Arizonan breakfast then you need to stop in at The Pepper Sauce Cafe. We had Huevos Rancheros and boy was it good. Itâs different from what we are used to in the Mid Atlantic states. First, the fresh made corn tortilla is served hot, large and separate from the rest of the meal, so it doesnât get soggy. Freshly made torts are a real treat, and great for dipping. Second, this dish is served with pinto beans, back home theyâre black beans, which are also good but this is different, which is good for a change. Third, you have a choice of breakfast potatoes and hash browns. You also get a variety of sauces - molĂ©, salsa, hot pepper, and of course, ketchup.
This place also serves lunch and dinner, but we havenât had a chance to experience that yet. Also, breakfast is served until 10:30am. The prices are also reasonable, with beverages tip our check...
