I have frequented this restaurant quite a number of times when I used to drive a truck and made runs from Greensboro to Roanoke to Blacksburg & back. The food & service was always hit or miss. The entrée was usually good and I love potato wedges so I always get them when I see them on a menu and luckily they have them. Although it was unpredictable whether they would be hot as a lava on the outside with a mystery bite of ice cube inside. I took my chances anyways because wedges seem to be hard to find these days. Never bothered with a review before because I was never upset or satisfied enough to feel the need to. Until now. Me & my family were on a day trip to P. mountain park & stopped in at AB's afterwards. We walk in & it's pretty busy (church) but plenty of open tables so we proceed to the counter to order. This is where it went downhill. We stood there patiently waiting as we could see they were pretty swamped with customers in that area of the restaurant where the ordering counter and ice cream counter is. Once the lady behind the counter finally acknowledged us it was immediately apparent she was a miserable hag. She acted as if taking our order was bothering her. We had several orders & after each one she would say something to the effect of "will that be it?" The look on her face was I hate my job, and I hate my life, I'm miserable & you're going to be miserable w/ me. Now, I know this isn't really mayberry but come on. If they are trying to recreate Francis Bavier (the miserable hag she really was) that played aunt bea then I would say having this lady employed is probably spot on. I had a choice of where to spend my money & we chose here only to get treated like scum. To top it off the chicken had either changed or she put In for wrong chicken on my sandwich because it wasn't the same piece I remember getting a couple years ago and it wasn't as good & wouldn't you know there were at least 2 wedges that were all but frozen in the middle. And yes I will call that out now it doesn't seem as petty. Needless to say we will NOT be going back. Not to confuse the out of NC aunt beas home cooking restaurants that from what I can see are probably more spot on with what you should expect from a place thats named in the likeness of a TV show as humble as the Andy Griffith Show. If courtesy, respect, dignity are important to you when you visit a place to spend your hard earned money then go somewhere else. Go on to TN or wherever there is a non quick serv aunt beas & eat there I bet it would have been worth the drive in the end. McDonald's up the street might even be a better choice. I know a guy with family in PM & he swears by Cousin Gary's right beside AB's in the little strip mall. After our experience I had to go see for next time if we were in the area on a Sunday if CG is open. They were! I was both happy and disappointed. I work in industrial maintenance & although I would consider myself lucky to have a good job that pays well I also work pretty damn hard at times. It takes me currently a little under 2 hours to make the money I spent at this establishment yesterday & I feel like I wasted it. I would have been better off flushing the money down the ol poop shoot. No matter what caused her to be in the mood she was in it gave her no right to be that way to me & my wife especially my wife. It wasn't just us either she treated other customers rudely as well. As you can see in the pic I attached her face pretty much is worth a thousand words. I would also like to note as business died down in the dining room she was in there while we ate roughly handling the chairs & tables putting them back together after a large family had finished up. It was rather annoying & further proved my point about her to my mother who got another young lady to take her order and didn't get the treatment we did. My mother is one of those who just "lets things slide" "brushes it off." If it were up to her that lady wouldn't get blasted on here BUT we are fed up with spending our money somewhere just to be treated like...
Read moreMy 1st experience with Aunt Bea's breakfast and BBQ sad to say but was very disappointing. I will say the place was clean and the staff was nice. Also the prices were fair. But given the name I was expecting a different atmosphere altogether, a Mayberry motif and much better menu options.
Aunt Bea's is basically a fastfood restaurant with the menu on the Marque. They feature breakfast anytime, burgers, hotdogs, fries and similar items and they have a variety of ice cream flavors.
The ice cream is set up like a typical Baskin Robbins but I don't think they have as large a variety. I would imagine the ice cream is what keeps their doors open in the summer. But I digress I didn't have ice cream nor breakfast.
I came around 3:30 pm. I had been driving for hours and needed a break. Plus I was hungry. Not being familiar with the place I asked the young girl behind the counter what they had to offer besides BBQ, she pointed me to the Marque and recommended a cheese burger. I decided sense it was a BBQ place to go for a large BBQ sandwich and fries and a peach cobbler for dessert. I sat at a table and waited for my number to be called. It didn't take long at all so no complaints there but the food just really wasn't up to par.
The BBQ itself wasn't bad, nothing exceptional, but not bad. The bun however was cold from the coleslaw and the coleslaw tasted like cabbage with mayonnaise and black pepper. I ate about 2/3rds of it before I just couldn't take another bite. The fries were crinkle cut which typically isn't my favorite but that wasn't really the problem. They were either tough or soggy. Fries should be light and crisp. These couldn't make up there mind. The cobbler tasted fine or I should say the peaches were fine and actually pretty good but the bread was tough but edible.
I'm hoping that this review will actually spawn improvements. Aunt Bea is a legacy character though fictitious was known for her...
Read moreI stopped at the drive thru on my way home. My food was passed to me in a white paper sack, each item in an individual container. When I got home and lifted the bag, the bottom dropped out and food went everywhere. I was livid. No dinner and a mess in my car. I cleaned it up as best I could in the rain after dark. When I came in the house I called the store and spoke with a manager. He listened while I explained what happened, asked pertinent questions and explained what he thinks could have happened and why. He took responsibility and promised to take whatever measures possible to assure that didn't happen again. He offered to replace the meal, but it was raining and I am in Mount Airy and didn't want to drive back to Pilot. He then offered gift certificates in an amount to make up for the lost meal and the inconvenience, to be picked up at my convenience. He apologized several times and even said it shouldn't have happened. I never complain about food service because their jobs are so very difficult right now with the Karen epidemic running wild. I didn't want to pile on. I thanked him for his patience and understanding. And sent thanks and compliments to all his staff. This was one bad experience out of the many good ones. Thank you Aunt Bea's! Great job. I really wish I could remember the gentleman's name that I talked to but I was so mad when I dialed the phone I immediately forgot it. I'd love to give him a personal shout out. Thank you area operations dude! I took off only one star because, while the visit was terrible, the final outcome...
