I have never been to a vegan cafe/restaurant before. I have flirted with both vegetarian & vegan diets, but subscribe to no labels. Having said that, I was surprised that "they" seemed to do no cooking. I have made falafel, hummus and other typical vegan items before, but the falafel I ordered came to me in an unfamiliar form and stone cold. It was mostly green, from what, I don't know. Also, it seemed to be more quinoa than chick pea. It came with a very sweet honey/habanero (?) sauce for dipping. Very underwhelming. My dining mate...actually, late breakfast/lunch--I think that's known as brunch but the cafe isn't open past 2pm--I think, mate and they ordered a "BLT". I had to see what passes for bacon in a vegan cafe and I had to ask, "Is that it?", pointing to what looked like spam or scrapple, but non-meat. It was a thick slice. I thought, why bother eating faux bacon? And this is a problem I have. Stop trying to make fake meat. Dispense with the "meat" idea altogether if you're vegan. There are puh-lenty of everyday vegan dishes we all already eat, e.g., spaghetti with marinara. Rice and beans. The aforementioned hummus. A tomato, cucumber and red onion salad with olive oil & balsamic or regular red wine vinegar. You get the idea. I mean, give it a try to prove me wrong and you'll be helping out a...
Read moreSo friendly and the food was delicious! My husband and I are from out of the area and stopped in after seeing the delicious looking sandwiches on the Gentle Giant FB page. We are so glad we did. We had brunch and lunch and ordered the breakfast Sammie, the plantbased BLT (TLT) as well as chickpea salad and some coleslaw. Everything was delicious. This is a cozy little spot in a cool town with Great food and great people. We can’t wait to be back! We even received awesome recommendations from the team about other things to do and try in town during our visit to Pitman. Items are plantbased and regardless of your diet - yum!! Just try it you won’t be disappointed. P.S. I saw the review below regarding the falafel and don’t think it’s very fair. As someone who has eaten all types diets in my life, it seems this person is just not giving something new a chance. There is no need to write a nasty review if you simply don’t like tempeh bacon. Just don’t order it if you don’t. :) We love it! Also, falafel comes in many colors and varieties. I say try this...
Read moreMy friends and I can say with confidence that this was the best vegan dining experience we’ve had in quite some time. The food is absolutely phenomenal and so delicious, I’m so happy to have found a place that delivers a genuinely better food alternative that’s more sustainable for both my health and the environment. Everything is so so tasty and fresh, and as someone who’s been vegan/vegetarian for several years, this is way better than the “original”. In addition to their food, their service is equally matched! I love supporting local businesses, but especially businesses owned by such kind and friendly people who are so involved with raising money for charitable causes. Everything about this place was amazing, and we can’t wait to come back!!! It’s currently take out only, but that gives you the opportunity to stop at a local Pitman craft brewery and support more...
