Al's Fish & Chicken — Restaurant in Pittsburgh

Dropped by this place out of a recommendation from an acquaintance. It’s a small serving counter for fried fish/chicken, cooked while one waits.

What’s notable here is the amiable staff.

BUT THE FOOD WAS A CATASTROPHIC DISAPPOINTMENT. The fish in particular was the blandest food I’ve tasted. It’s fried crisp but neither the batter nor the fish were seasoned. It was splashed with what looks like powdered pepper but there’s no pepper, not even a hint of salt. Worst, the batter is like tasteless crumbled cardboard. It was very thick, the coated batter can be peeled off the fish. The take away 10-piece “party” fish was a terrible mistake!!!

The food at Al’s Fish & Chicken is really good—I had the catfish, and it was fresh, well-seasoned, and cooked just right. However, the customer service was disappointing. I asked the guy working a simple question about wait time, and he acted like he didn’t hear me. The overall vibe just wasn’t welcoming. While the food is good enough to come back for, the service was bad enough that I didn’t feel inclined to leave a tip. Hopefully, they improve on that because the food deserves better...

I bought the $7 catfish nuggets and fries they gave me six little pieces that look like marbles for catfish and they barely gave me a medium fry and they charged me $7 for that I don't know if they understand what they're doing but they going to kill their business if they give people 6 little stones of fish plus these things wasn't even pieces those were like...
