I love Gepetto in Bloomfield, and I usually walk away very happy with what I order there, which tends to be one of their savory crepes. However, my most recent visit, the crepe they served me was subpar to say the least. I ordered their chicken and gruyere variety which includes the roast chicken, gruyere cheese, caramelized onions, and their "special sauce" (it's big Mac sauce, its always big Mac sauce lol) which is usually an exemplary and satisfying meal. This time, my crepe came topped with an ugly rushed squeeze bottled helping of sauce on top, ruining the otherwise picturesque presentation of the meal, and the interior reflected a similar fate. Every bite I took was dominated by the flavor of the sauce leaving the actual delicious fillings dying in the background of flavor and literally falling out of the crepe because of how slippery the sauce made it. It was one thing done wrong, but it ruined the meal and I couldn't even finish it it was so gross to me. I mentioned it to the server, who justified the topping of sauce as a way to signify the type of crepe served, which is understandable, but she made no offerings to make it up to me as a patron and just suggested that next time I order the sauce on the side. Which would not have saved my crepe today even if I had. I hope that the next time I come to this restaurant I don't have to deal with...
Read morewent to the lawerenceville location and loved it. when they opened up a second location, i was super excited to be in walking distance. however every time i’ve been it falls flat. after this most recent time i decided to never return. my girlfriend and i both ordered a side of bacon with our meals. for 4 dollars we were given 3 small pieces of cold bacon. not once since our food got delivered did our server come and ask us how our meal was. in fact our server never even came back, another server that brought our food earlier checked us out. i was surprised when checking out to see the tip options started at 20% and went to 30%. if i had the opportunity to talk to our server about our experience i would have given 20%, but no one even thought about asking us how our meal was. we thought maybe our past experiences were anomalies, my girlfriends waffle was so hard she couldn’t cut through it and the skillet i ordered was missing egg, which is a main component of the dish. when we told the server about our meal she went “i’m sorry that’s terrible” and just handed us the machine to pay, despite noticing my girlfriend’s meal was left untouched after she couldn’t cut it. we thought it deserved it second chance since we loved the lawerenceville one so much, but now we know it...
Read moreGepetto Café’s second location is just as adorable as their Lawrenceville spot! This new Bloomfield café sits right on Liberty Avenue and makes for the sweetest breakfast and lunch destination. The menu is full of fresh, delicious ingredients, showcasing a delightful range of European-inspired dishes.
The atmosphere is warm and cheerful, making for a thoroughly enjoyable experience. I tried their mocha, lavender latte, and pistachio latte—all made with homemade syrups—and I could quite literally have one of each item on the menu and be happy!
For savory dishes, I sampled the smoked salmon Benny, avocado toast, Southwest omelette, the classic breakfast, the new prosciutto egg & cheese panini, and their incredible seasonal authentic dish: the Çılbır (poached egg with yogurt and spices). Everything was flavorful and beautifully presented.
On the sweet side, I indulged in the classic Nutella crepe and the raspberry & goat cheese French toast—both delicious.
And the best part? This location features a full case of homemade Turkish desserts! From börek to tulumba and even the most decadent baklava, there’s something special for every sweet tooth.
Highly recommend making a stop here—you...
