Here's the scoop: High quality ice cream in wonderful flavors served by attentive, friendly staff.
In its third week of being open, I dropped in at 6pm on a Wednesday (no lineup but a rush to follow shortly after) and again at 9:30pm two days later (Friday; short line and steady groups of customers coming in but we still felt staff was efficient in offering samples & at checkout).
Ordered a scoop of the Pumpkin Cake Roll against my own aversions of fall/pumpkin-themed flavors and was pleasantly surprised; a citrusy, fresh pumpkin flavor without the inundation of common pumpkin spice seasonings.
The dairy-free Texas Sheet Cake is amazingly rich in chocolate flavor with an unreal creaminess & fudgy texture. A decadent chocolate experience that should be pleasing to even the toughest chocolate critics — not for freaking wimps.
The waffle cone / bowl is unique in its crispiness (ie. expect a crunch every bite and not an awkward gummy texture) and is overall slightly more salty than sweet, which complements the ice cream nicely.
Very glad to now have a premium ice cream location in Pittsburgh where I can treat myself & splurge once in a while. Go get...
Read moreI had a number of people.rave about the quality of the ice cream from Jeni's, but had yet to try it because the couple of times I had attempted prior were met with either a very long line or difficulty in finding a parking spot in the crowded and chaotic Bakery Square area. But my wife and I finally got a shot at it (and a close parking space at that) on a Saturday evening- and the accolades were proven quite accurate.
I got the Gooey Butter Cake ice cream, which was ridiculously buttery and rich and delicious. My wife, who is lactose intolerant, opted for the dairy free Texas Sheet Cake ice cream, and was impressed with the rich depth of dark chocolate flavor. The prices are fair for "boutique" ice cream, and the ability to get a kids size (still a good bit of ice cream and a cute waffle cone chip to dip) was appreciated. Add in nice service and a bright and colorful decor, and it's easy to see why this place is...
Read moreJeni’s Splendid Ice Creams has locations in several states, and this new location is the only one in the Pittsburgh area. Jeni’s makes ice creams from unique ingredients such as cayenne pepper, whiskey, popcorn, lavender, etcetera. Recently, I ate the Bramble Berry Crisp and the Mexican Hot Chocolate ice creams, and my husband ate the Milkiest Chocolate and the Brown Butter Almond Brittle ice creams. My flavors were unique, and my husband’s flavors were typical, but all flavors tasted very good. Two scoops of ice cream cost about $6. You can see other prices in one of my attached photos. The employee did a great job with scooping our ice creams, processing our payment, and wishing us a great day. Some booths, tables, and chairs were available to sit at. If you are unable to visit this location, you can still purchase Jeni’s ice creams through their website and some...
