We’ve eaten here probably 20 times over the last couple of years, and after the last 2-3 visits, I’m never ordering from this place again. Even though they were overpriced, I used to religiously order the poke bowls when they still had them (back when they were Federal Galley, before Shaka came to BkSq), my husband always loved the Vietnamese lemongrass bowl– and confirms that the lemongrass bowl is still good!
Beyond that, the quality and selection has fallen down the stairs. Focusing on appetizers that we ordered from the last several visits– summer rolls are always sold out, leaving no options for healthy apps. On one visit, ordered the Korean Veggie Dumplings and a table of 8 or so agreed that they looked beautiful but, incredibly, tasted like nothing at all. The filling just fell out of the dumplings, watery, as if they were boiled rather than steamed and filled up with water. No one could bear to even finish dumpling, they were that bad! Only thing you could taste was the chili oil which isn’t that flavorful at all. On the next visit, ordered the Deconstructed Rangoons– didn’t come as pictured, filling was in a cup instead of spread over the deconstructed wontons. This is noteworthy because the filling is SO hard that even with a fork it was difficult to spread it onto the brittle wontons. Even the wonton chips were cold like they came out of a fridge already prepped. Regular Rangoons aren’t served ice cold, why should the deconstructed version be served ice cold? Cold fried wonton chips are saturated in fat, just like regular hot Rangoon wontons, it’s just that the fat isn’t as liquid as in the hot Rangoon wonton version– which is a bit gross. Didn’t sit well in our stomachs either. And finally, most recently we got the Bulgogi egg rolls which were essentially just ground beef tossed in sauce as filling, which just feels lazy– even regular Chinese egg rolls have cabbage as well. They could’ve done with something in addition to the meat or at least better meat than ground beef… at least use chipped beef or something you can reasonably marinate.
Long story short, the quality and selection at Somi is quite mediocre, especially for the...
Read moreSeriously overpriced food. Sloppy service. Stay away.
For a take-out lunch ordered tempura shrimp with rice and an iced tea. $28 was the total, with tip, and a "credit card fee" - something they charge but don't tell you about.
Stood and waited for 15 minutes while four people in line behind me got their food, with one of them getting exactly the same thing I ordered . Finally asked to check on the order. Total confusion. Finally found the order except it was in a ceramic bowl for eating in. Canceled the order. Wasted 20 minutes of my lunch hour.
Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.
LATE ADDITION. They are even more incompetent than originally appeared. They cannot even issue a credit to the card for the canceled order without messing it up. Received my credit card bill a week or so after my visit - the charge is still on it. Looked closely at the credit slip they gave me - they credited someone else's Master Card (I paid with a Visa). Had to call the CC company and...
Read moreI've tried this place twice. This food is.. not good. This last time I threw almost my whole meal away which is sad because it wasn't cheap. Clearly not much effort put into their stuff. The $21 poke bowl was so bland even salt and seasonings couldn't help it and the tuna was definitely off. Soggy fries with too much sauce.. Had I eaten it there I would have asked for a refund but I took it to go and was disappointed at home and left hungry. Won't be going back. Thankfully, my girlfriend ordered from one of the other restaurants (Revival, I think. It was a newer one) and shared hers with me. It was better, but the bar was set pretty low. I used to be a fan of the galley concepts, but it seems they're just throwing in places that can put food out fast and there are plenty of those that do it way better. McDonald's, or panda express,...
