Food is ok, but my friends and I had a bad experience with the staff and management. The restaurant hours state that they open at 11am, but when we went at 11am they were closed and no one picked up their phone (lights and sign were also off). Since it was rainy and cold we went to sit someplace nearby to wait it out. When we went back we noticed our cars were towed (which cost about $350 when it was all said and done). I went back to complain and explain what happened and I was yelled at and called a liar. I asked to speak to any sort of management and the waitress said none was available, but after she started yelling someone that seemed to be in management told her something in a foreign language and she walked away from me mid conversation (basically telling me to go away). I used to recommend this place to all my friends and eat here all the time, but based on how they treat their customers and their inconsistency with their open hours I would say AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE.

TLDR: Staff is extremely rude and restaurant hours are not exact.

Edit:This platform will not let me respond directly, so I'll put my response below:

Thank you for the offer, but this does not change the fact that my friends and I waited in front of the restaurant at 11am. My call log shows I called at 11:04 am with no answer. All the lights were off and the door locked. We'd always register our car with the staff, but as I said, no one was there to register us. So regardless of whether Kavsar was open at 11am or not, the reality today was that no one was there at 11am to receive us or take our call. I took great offense to being called a liar on this point by your staff, I have my call record I can show you and three...

My family loves exploring new cuisines, and for my husband's birthday, we decided to check out Kavsar, "the first Uzbek restaurant in Pittsburgh". I've been curious about this place since I now work nearby, and after being take-out only since the pandemic in 2020, they recently reopened for dining. Trust me, it was worth the wait for the dine-in experience!

Kavsar stands out as one of the few, if not the only, restaurants in Mt. Washington with its own parking lot, which was a great start to our experience. The décor was tasteful, and the atmosphere was inviting and comfortable. Our server was not only prompt but also incredibly helpful, eagerly answering all our questions.

Now, let's talk about the food. We sampled both house beverages: one was a refreshing fruit punch, and the other a unique salted yogurt drink. The fruit beverage struck the perfect balance—not too sweet—and everyone loved it. The yogurt drink was an interesting choice, definitely worth trying. For appetizers, we shared the Kavsar Boat Cheese/Egg and a couple of Samsa. The homemade bread was outstanding, and the sauce accompanying the Samsas had a remarkable depth of flavor that complemented the flaky meat-filled pastries beautifully.

For our main courses, we ordered Shurpa Soup, Uzbek Plov, Lagman, and Nuhot Shurak. Each dish offered delightful variations of flavor that left us all satisfied and impressed.

I am thrilled I took a fellow foodie's recommendation to try Kavsar. Sharing this delightful dining experience with my family made it even better. I can't wait to return for their incredible soups—they’ll definitely be one of my go-to spots...

Tucked away in the little lanes of Mt Washington is this gem of a place that pops up almost out of nowhere in the heart of a homely neighborhood. Where do I start.. Ok.. so they have a separate vegetarian menu..that's one star right there! The dishes are a nice balance of truly authentic with a couple of fusion options thrown in like Pasta or Eurasian stroganoff. We started with the mushroom and potato Samsa, eggplant rolls and stuffed tomatoes. I would have given the place 5 stars right there! But we didn't stop there did we. My boyfriend and I proceeded to order the traditional Uzbek bread and the mushroom soup, because soups are apparently important in the Uzbek culinary experience. Both were fantastic, fresh and warmly soothing on a cold winter evening. And then we also tried the Manti, the stuffed dumplings. We couldn't decide if we wanted the pumpkin ones or the spinach ones and our waitress sweetly suggested bringing us a half plate one type and the other half of the other. Problem solved! I'd actually give them a couple of extra stars for the service if I could! Our waitress was so helpful, accommodative and efficient. The one think I wish they had on heir menu was vegetarian plaf! (A rice dish). But our waitress told us that all we had to do is to call ahead next time and they'd have it made! The overall experience was like dining in a warm, friendly Uzbek home! (Shoutout to the interesting interiors!) Here's a business that values its patrons and they've found a huge fan in me. Of course, I took some of the baklava home for a late night snack. Yet again GlobalPittsburgh hosted a closing lunch for a group of six Russian medical professionals, host families, and professionals at Kavsar on Dec. 7! Dining at Kavsar is always a pleasure but dining there in December is a whole different story! The traditional and authentic ambiance is doubled with the holiday decorations that our guests loved. One of the delegates was born in Uzbekistan and commented that Kavsar's samsa reminded her home as it tasted exactly how she remembered in her childhood. The portions were very generous, the food was fresh and tasty. Everyone left satisfied and the leftovers could feed another group of 20! We surely will be back for another group event or celebration! I highly recommend Kavsar restaurant!

Fantastic Uzbekistan food. We ordered from UberEats late at night when most things were closed already. We were blown away by the quality of the food. There were many great options for our picky vegetarian in our group. The beef stroganoff was amazing, supple and tender beef that melted in your mouth. The perogies were light and perfectly cooked. THE BREAD The bread was the star of the show. I ate nearly half a loaf after eating a VERY generous portion of beef stroganoff. I was full before i started to eat the bread but kept eating well after i should have stopped. The baklava were massive and amazing, this was after I ate a half of loaf of bread. If you are in Pittsburgh is a must try.
