One of the worst experiences I've had with a restaurant/bartender. I was here on a Friday with a group of three others. We sat down and nobody came up to us for about 15 minutes. My brother and I figured we would just go get drinks at the bar, no big deal. Mind you, we were here for happy hour and drafts were each $2 off. My brother and I each ordered two drafts, one for ourselves and one for our partners. I close the tab instead of keeping it open and notice that the bartender did not give me the happy hour discount, so I was overcharged by $4. I asked him if he gave me the happy hour discount and he said "sure" without even making eye contact with me. Considering I was overcharged and gave him the opportunity to realize his mistake, and he didn't own up to it, I didn't give him a tip. Now where it gets interesting is when I took the drinks and started walking back to my table, my brother was still at the bar. After I left, the bartender picks up my receipt and says loud enough for the people at the bar to hear "hope he tips his waitress at least." First, a tip is not automatic. Secondly, I would've tipped the man if not for his mistake on the overcharge. Lastly, no need to publicize our dispute to the entire bar. Turns out, he also overcharged my brother for his two drafts. After we were all back at the table, we made sure that we were not in the wrong and asked our server to confirm that it was happy hour and that entailed $2 off on drafts. She confirmed that was the situation. However, we didn't complain or mention the bartender, it was water under the bridge. But then... we ordered another round at the table. This time, my fiance and I were charged correctly with the $2 discount per draft, but my brother and his wife were still overcharged $2 each. So we asked the waitress about it and she said that she did give us the discount. My brother ordered two Miller Lites, which are $5 on the restaurant's menu and website. So his two drinks should have been a total of $6. Instead it was $10. So my brother's question to the waitress was "so you're telling me a Miller Draft is regularly $7, and the $5 is a discount?" Waitress said yes, even though that was not accurate. But the best part of this was right after this happened, the restaurant asked us to move tables to accommodate another party. All and all we were overcharged $12, embarrassed by the bartender, lied to by both the bartender and waitress, and then asked to move. Will...
Read moreShiloh Gastro is a hidden gem atop Mt. Washington, offering scratch-made contemporary comfort food in a laid-back, relaxed setting—making it a perfect stop whether you're a local or just visiting the Mount. The ambiance is welcoming with both indoor and outdoor seating options, a full bar featuring bar stools and high tops, and even an upstairs area with additional dining space and a private room available for events. The staff is incredibly sweet and attentive, enhancing the warm, inviting vibe of the restaurant. They also run several fun weekly specials: Happy Hour all day on Mondays and again Tuesday through Friday from 4–6 PM, with deals on drinks and appetizers. On “211 Tuesdays,” those who live or work on Mt. Washington receive 25% off their meals—a great local perk! And every Wednesday, enjoy half-off mac and cheese—a comfort food classic. From their new spring cocktail menu, I tried two standout drinks: Hibiscus Margarita: Sauza tequila, Cointreau, hibiscus, fresh lime juice, and a salted rim—bright, floral, and refreshing. Light My Way (Ultraviolet Daiquiri): Maggie’s Farm rum, crème de violette, lavender simple syrup, and fresh lime juice—smooth, aromatic, and unique. For starters, the shrimp and crab stuffed mushrooms were a hit—baby portobellos filled with a rich mix of crab, spinach, and cream cheese, topped with garlic butter shrimp and balsamic glaze. Flavor-packed and satisfying. Next up was the strawberry caprese salad—a fresh spring mix tossed in balsamic vinaigrette, with red onions, diced strawberries, fresh mozzarella, basil pesto, and a drizzle of balsamic glaze. It was the perfect light and seasonal dish. For the main course, I tried one of their new menu items: stuffed shells filled with chicken, spinach, tomatoes, onions, cream cheese, mozzarella, and Parmesan. Served with garlic bread, this dish was indulgent, fresh, and absolutely delicious. I ended the meal with their cinnamon roll bread pudding, served warm with vanilla ice cream and caramel—comforting, decadent, and the ideal sweet finish. I can't wait to return and explore more of their spring/summer menu. Shiloh Gastro nails the balance of comfort and creativity—definitely worth the trip...
Read moreAdding more info. We were doing a crawl up Shiloh and this was the first stop. One drink, one menu item at each stop was the rules, so we had room for every bar on the street.
It was 5:58 and the waitress told us we could get in at the $6 happy hour appetizer rate if we put in our order right then. She suggested nachos, so we ordered the nachos. We requested pico on the side since one of us has a problem with onions. We also got a margarita, a Jameson soda, and another cocktail from HH special.
The nachos came out and looked like nachos on a plate, but the cheese was super thick and looked like it was drying or congealing. I went to dip a chip into the cheese and it wouldn't come up. My friend got the first bite and made a face and said, "something's sweet". So we all tried a bite. Yep, there was something sweet. So I pulled open a menu and went to check the ingredients. Sweet chili aioli. On nachos. Aioli is mayo. Mayo on tortilla chips.
The chips were dry, and covered in thick layers of sour cream, drying nacho cheese, and sweet sauce. There was nothing to pluck out to salvage. My friend who is a human garbage disposal went to town but my other friend and I couldn't eat it, the flavors and textures were just wrong. The frozen margarita was sickly sweet and tasted like a mix.
Don't call my review malicious. If your normal food and drinks are hand crafted and we just happened to order the worst stuff on the menu, cut your menu to only offer the good stuff. Serving objectively inferior product (canned cheese, bagged chips, packaged margarita mix) at low intro prices and which doesn't reflect your restaurant's quality, you're not doing yourselves or new guests any favors.
We ended up eating what was clearly a frozen (but beautifully grilled) burger patty down the street that was better than what you served us.
Original post: Horrifically bad food & cocktails. The nachos came out with aioli. Literally what the hell. The drinks were terrible. The ceiling in the bathroom was falling apart. The waitress was nice, but we still left as soon...
