Over 12 years ago while visiting my relatives during a long weekend, they took my family and I to this beautiful scenic view of downtown Pittsburgh before sunset. Thanks to my cousin's husband, he encouraged me to walk to the platform; even though, I was kind of afraid of heights and I was weak in the knees when I looked down. I truly enjoyed the amazing view once I got acclimated with the height. I heard the crowds cheering for the Steelers at the Heinz stadium. There was a baseball game at the PNC Park. Boats were sailing on the Allegheny River. We encountered very friendly locals that graciously offered to take our pictures during our walk to the other platform. Now, the view at night was the highlight of my trip! It was breathtaking. It got quite chilly and windy, so bring a light jacket just in case.
If you are planning to visit Pittsburgh for the first time, you should definitely add the Grandview Overlook to your to-do list. You won't regret it. My relatives drove us to the site and parallel parked at one of the metered parking areas, but you can park your car at Station Square, take the Monongahela Incline, and walk along Grandview Avenue to one of four platforms. The only two platforms I checked out were the ones closest to the St. Mary's School. If you plan to visit those platforms, prepare to walk far if you are coming from the Monongahela Incline. Other reviews mentioned there were no restrooms at the upper station, but they do have them at the lower station. They also mentioned to hold on to your tickets since they do collect them when you go back down to the...

Read moreAlmost everyone who visits Pittsburgh ends up on Mount Washington to take in the breathtaking view. USA Weekend's 2003 Annual Travel Report ranked it the second most beautiful place in America:
In a nation with a wealth of stunning cities full of compelling stories, ranking Pittsburgh as the No. 2 beauty spot is perhaps our most surprising choice. But the Steel City's aesthetic appeal is undeniable, as is its very American capacity for renewal.
The stunning nighttime view from Mount Washington features a sweeping panorama of downtown Pittsburgh and the surrounding countryside. The landmark skyscrapers of Pittsburgh's Golden Triangle are nestled at the point where the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers flow together to create the mighty Ohio. At night, lights twinkle from both the city and more than 15 bridges.
