If you’ve ever strolled through Pittsburgh’s iconic Strip District, chances are you’ve caught a whiff of something rich, bold, and impossibly comforting in the air. That scent? It’s Prestogeorge — one of the city’s oldest and most beloved coffee roasters and loose tea specialists. Step inside and you're immediately enveloped by the warm, nutty, slightly sweet aroma of freshly roasted coffee — the kind of smell that instantly makes you feel at home. With over 200 coffees and 300+ teas, it's a paradise for caffeine lovers and curious sippers alike. What makes Prestogeorge so special isn't just the variety — it’s the experience. Picture a cozy specialty market where, instead of grabbing a random bag off the shelf, you talk with an actual coffee or tea connoisseur who helps you explore the flavors and find your perfect match. Once you choose your beans or leaves, they’ll even grind it to your liking. Locally owned and family-run, Prestogeorge is a Strip District staple that’s all about quality, tradition, and community.

I stumbled upon Prestogeorge by accident while walking through the Strip District, completely drawn in by the incredible smell of coffee wafting out onto the street — and I’m so glad I did. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with smiling faces ready to answer all of my questions. I’m a big fan of dark roasts, and the staff gave me great recommendations. I also grabbed a cup to enjoy while shopping, and it was some of the best coffee I’ve had in a long time. The vibe here feels cozy, family-like, and full of genuine hospitality. The man checking me out even went above and beyond, recommending a local New Orleans jazz band playing nearby during my trip — such a thoughtful touch. 10/10 experience. If you’re a coffee lover, whether you’re local or just visiting Pittsburgh, Prestogeorge is a must-stop.

A very good selection of tea at amazing prices. We have made several purchases online and the shipments were always very quick. The staff on the phone has always been very helpful when something we want was out of stock. So when we were visiting Pittsburgh, the natural instinct was we have to stop by! Right?

Well, the in-person experience was less than impressive. The system made sense, take the jars of tea you want and bring them to the staff to weigh and package. That's where the problem came in. The weighing countered were packed with jars of tea. Some jars were stashed so high up that we thought it would be wise to ask for assistance, but the man seemed annoyed that we had to ask him to get a glass jar that we couldn't reach. When he asked how much tea I wanted, I had to repeat myself 4 times. I understand that the music might have been loud or masks make understanding each other a little difficult, but the whole interaction was very uncomfortable. Another lady doing the weighing was also impatient. We asked for 4oz of tea, and as she was weighing, she stopped at 3oz. and asked "are you sure? This is a lot of tea" yes ma'am it is a lot of tea because we dont normally get to visit, and we have tea-loving family. Also, 4oz is the standard size you sell on your online shop I don't know why you are making such a big deal of it being too much.

The cashier did brighten up our visit at the end. She was very friendly and efficient, also patient when my credit card tap wasn't working.

Overall, good products, subpar service with the exception of a few. Just use their website, it would probably save you some gas and parking...

I do cold brew coffee and I do iced tea blends, and you really can't beat Presto if you're into either of these things. They roast their coffee in hundred year old roasters...everything turns out a little darker than you would get at a different shop, but it ends up retaining the more nuanced flavors of the beans in spite of this, making for singularly excellent cold brew unlike anything I've had. The closest to it would be Blue Bottle coffee, and Presto is a lot cheaper and still better.

For tea, they have hundreds of options, they're all good, they blend together well, and the guys in the back can often make you custom flavors and blends if you ask them to and give them a little lead time. I've made some of the best teas I've ever had by just heading to Presto, grabbing a few things, and experimenting at home. If I'm being really honest, I probably owe Presto for teaching me to love and appreciate tea as much as I loved coffee.

On top of all of that, the staff is extremely friendly and accommodating, and the ones who have been there for a minute really know their stuff...Sarah knows more than anyone about coffee and tea, Phil knows a ton about herbal tea, Dre and Jeremy have drank more different kinds of coffee than just about anyone I know and are always experimenting with stuff...the staff has a wealth of knowledge, and they're happy to talk shop with you on the less busy days.

Presto is the best coffee shop in Pittsburgh. There are plenty of other 5 star shops, but someone has to be the best,...

Love this place buy coffee here every week. What I love most is the friendly staff and service. I hate leaving this review but it’s more about the treatment of the staff. Today when I was picking up my coffee a customer was laughing and joking with two employees. When the customer walked away the two continued talking for less than 30 seconds. That’s when, I don’t know if he was owner or manager (old guy white beard), came out and berated the two employees for having a conversation after the customer left. It was very awkward and there were still customers and other employees within earshot. I hope this review makes it to him and he realizes that’s not the way to treat employees. These employees are some of the friendliest and most professional on the whole strip and offer great service. Why demoralize them in public. Shame on you. That’s bad for business and your employees moral. Any 1st year manager would know you never council in public. I hope these employees also see this review and know they are appreciated and doing...
