This location, in the strip district, is the original location from 1933. since 1933 and is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
A trip to Pittsburgh isn't complete without a Primanti Brothers signature sandwich! Stuffed with coleslaw and French fries, foodies can get a taste of Pittsburgh in a sandwich. go to 18th street and you can find this. This is the original Primati Bros.
Fascinating History: The history behind Primanti Brothers is an interesting one. Originally, the strip district was a very busy location where merchants would bring their goods for sale all day long. Joe Primanti had a very busy food cart. Eventually, he saved enough to open his own small restaurant to serve the crowds that would come to the district.
His amazing sandwiches are packed with meat, cheese, coleslaw, and tomato on Italian Bread but the famous addition of fries to the sandwich ended up there by accident. A potato salesman brought them to the district to sell, Joe bought them, put them on sandwiches, and wohoo --the now world-famous sandwich was born.
We ordered Double egg burger Cajun Chicken with extra meat Boneless wings
it has other locations as well, market square and Carson street, but yeah, the original is original.
Everything was great. this must-try destination for a Pittsburgh local. There is limited seating but the way Primanti's makes its sandwiches, they are designed to...
Read moreI waited all afternoon of our planned trip to finally eat at this place. Have read so much about it, and was very excited to get to the original place where the tradition started...
I do not even know where to begin with this experience. We were waiting for someone to come at the table since there was no movement indicating that a server was coming to us, so I decided to go to the counter and order... and went from bad to worse.
It was 5:30pm, maybe it was my impression but the lady was not giving any customer service whatsoever. I was looking at the menu online and she told me this location did not serve any of the specials online, just what's advertised on the wall. I told to myself was odd, but went ahead and order. 1 strike
Once I placed the order I told her I wanted 2 cokes and 1 Fanta, she gave me 3 cokes. I said fine, let me get one more drink and asked for Fanta, again and she gave me once more, a coke 🤔 strike 2
I ordered what I thought it was going to be the best sandwich, since it's named after the city and could not be more wrong... I got the pitts-burger and disastrously was as bad as this whole experience.
The bread was stale, very dry and tasteless meat. And to add more horror to the movie, I tried the "hot" chili bowl... it was very cold and nothing special about it.
Sadly a very bad experience for me, not likely I'll be coming nor...
Read moreMy husband and I and our young toddler stopped by the Oakmont location on our drive through Pittsburgh on a long car trip over Labor Day weekend. We were tired and our toddler was cranky. Everything about our experience turned our day around! The staff was cheerful, attentive and very sweet to my toddler, we got amazing, fast service and the food (which was our first time trying these famous sandwiches) was so good! My toddler was even happy with his food! They kept our drinks filled and my toddler happy. I also have to say this was the most reasonably priced meal we had on our whole Labor Day weekend trip. Great prices for great food. We were so out of sorts, however, that I left my wristlet purse at the table when we left, so I called the restaurant a few days later after noticing it was missing. They sent it to me in the mail (since I live out of state) at no extra cost with some coupons as well! I cannot say enough great things about this place. Every bit of our experience was positive, and as a family with small children I can't emphasize how much I appreciate that from a restaurant. I know small toddlers leave a big mess and make a lot of noise but we felt warmly welcomed and well taken care of. We will definitely be making this a regular stop on our trips...
