05/26/2025 Update: So, I think it's under new ownership once again. Seems as if they're cutting corners on just about every aspect of restaurant ownership. From smaller portions in your bento box to not giving any of the accompanied sauces for anything and then when asked for, they're delivered cold like cold tempura dipping sauce. For some reason, the sesame chicken is prepared to be spicy chicken with a vinegar chili sauce on it instead of it tasting like soy sauce and sesame.
I didn't even get a copy of my credit card receipt to take home with me. Only the merchant copy and the item receipt.
Still an ok place to eat, but being chiseled on everything puts a bad taste in my gut. Maybe it's just a sign of the times.
Hello Sushi in Brea is a new “All you can eat” sushi restaurant that’s just recently opened. They have the full menu of all your favorite Japanese dishes including Bento Boxes.
There have been at least three prior sushi restaurants in this space that did not survive the test of time, and for good reason. They were no good. I’ve never understood why you would open a restaurant, which is a “customer service” endeavor, and then be a complete failure at serving your customers. The prior restaurants also took classic dishes and rolls, put their own spin on them and basically ruined them. News flash restaurant owners… they’re called classic rolls and dishes for a reason! People don’t want your vision; they want that classic taste they’ve come to know and love!
Now for the good news! FINALLY, a sushi restaurant in the area that’s getting it right on all levels! Customer service was off the hook! As soon as we walked through the door we were greeted by the owner and every single staff member in the place. Everyone acknowledged our presence and welcomed us coming in and going out when we were finished! And, throughout our dining experience, we were constantly tended to by all staff. This is the result of great restaurant management from the top down! Great job management and owner!
The harder and harder to find “All you can eat” sushi option is a nice touch. I opted to just order miso soup and two classic salmon rolls. One spicy, one not. My wife ordered the Spicy Edamame appetizer. I saw two dudes at another table who clearly ordered the “all you can eat” option get delivered more beautiful sushi, than I thought two people could possibly even eat. So, I took note at the sushi chefs’ attention to detail even on such a large order. It was two giant charcuterie boards full of sushi and rolls beautifully laid out. It was art on a platter!
We only ordered one miso soup but were mistakenly given two. We offered to pay for it as we were ok with both having one. They insisted that they would eat the cost of that mistake and made good on their promise as the final bill only had charge for one miso soup. Again, customer service that’s not often seen these days!
So, when my two rolls arrived in a very timely fashion, despite the restaurant being busy, along with my wife’s appetizer, my first impression of the sushi rolls was WOW these are so large! Probably the largest sushi rolls I’ve ever been served! I had trouble finishing them. Every bite was a delight as the classic flavors of each roll came through and were exactly what they were supposed to be. Well done chef! I will be back!
I paid $12.00 for the one salmon roll and $14.00 for the spicy one. These are VERY affordable roll prices considering how large they are! This restaurant represents great value for your money. As I perused the menu, most prices were very reasonable. I Can’t wait to try other items.
All in all, I believe this restaurant is about to become my new favorite sushi/Japanese restaurant in my area. I plan on abusing the entire menu over time and suffering for it greatly while I slip into a food coma...
Read moreWe've been here over half a dozen times but today was the worst experience and food was nearly inedible.
First the male server was so strange by threatening charges for leftover rice from our first order of AYCE and he also asked if we all wanted wasabi, soy sauce, etc. because he was too lazy to bring it.
However, the highlight is absolutely the terrible food. The rice was so nasty, dry, and a bit crunchy. I don't know what was wrong, but my guess is that they had leftover rice from the previous day and instead of making a fresh batch they tried to salvage it. They used so much rice for each piece of sushi that it made each bite awful.
On top of this, the sushi was not fresh. I know it's AYCE but the quality was trash, and borderline spoiled. Super dry and mushy, with either no flavor or overly foul fishy. You can imagine what how that would make things like the Uni taste. All of their limited "special" items were also quite nasty or disappointing.
I have a feeling they have issues with worker retention (they were holding interviews) and obviously with their food sourcing where they are getting below AYCE grade quality. Maybe they are on the verge of going under and are letting all quality go down the drain.
I won't be returning and feel completely ripped off offer spending over $200. I was on the fence on tipping but honestly this is managements fault and not the employees. I would have enjoyed or found value literally anywhere else, or eating week old leftovers at home. Super annoying when you are craving sushi and when you want to splurge on calories...
Read moreIt was our first time at Hello Sushi, and our party of 4 had such a great time. The owner/our server, Eileen, was so sweet and welcoming! Service was very prompt and friendly during our entire dinner. She always checked to make sure our drinks were full, and we never had to wait too long for appetizers or sushi. Our food came out quickly because the sushi chef was working hard at the bar. The interior was also very clean and cozy.
We appreciated the premium selection they offered, such as fresh oysters in shell, uni, yellowtail belly and bluefin tuna. The regular sushi offerings were also fresh, and they do offer all the classics! The sushi was beautifully presented on a long wooden board, and we could tell they put a lot of care into the presentation. They have sake and soju available on the menu, along with ice cream for dessert (extra charge). We didn't partake in the dessert because we were too stuffed from the sushi and appetizers.
The appetizers were also delicious! There was quite a lot to choose from, and they came out very quickly from the kitchen. We ordered a variety to try, like their miso soup, sashimi salad, salmon skin salad, takoyaki, sesame chicken and edamame. Everything we ordered was hot (minus the salad, of course) and fresh.
The restaurant is a hidden gem tucked away in a plaza, so find your way there and enjoy some PAYCE sushi! Great service, location and food. We will be back in the future, and I'll be recommending your restaurant to friends & neighbors. We hope you...
