My wife had been bugging me to try this place. Last night we were headed out for dinner on the way to Francesca in the Promenade. As we drove by Capri, there was a parking spot open. I said to myself, why not try this? It's right here, and we're early enough where we probably won't have to wait for a table. This was my first time trying any version of Capri, (which has been around for a long time in many versions) so I had no idea what to expect. First impressions when walking in, nice looking place, but a little cramped space wise. The very pleasant young lady at the front door offered us a table on the second floor and suggested it was more spacious. I had no idea there was a second floor. This was my first time in that building. It's been home to at least 3 or 4 different bar/restaurants since I've seen it. So, we followed her up the long narrow stair case and walk into a really nice looking room on the second floor. It sort of reminded of Francesca's second floor in downtown Naperville, only Capri's is nicer. By nicer I mean better looking and more comfortable. First thing I noticed once we were seated is how quickly someone came over and poured us water and brought us a basket of bread. With the bread, finely minced roasted red bell pepper, with finely minced garlic and olive oil. Wonderful stuff. Next, our server came by and introduced herself and told us what the specials were. She took our drink order and gave us time to think about appetizers We chose the Calamari Capri and the special of the evening, Grilled Langostino's over a bed of some really tasty risotto with asparagus The Calamari Capri is fried in a light breading and served drizzled lightly with olive oil and red pepper flakes. This was one tasty dish. The Calamari might be the most tender I've ever eaten. It comes with a side of homemade "red sauce" aka marinara which is old school crazy delicious. I could eat the marinara alone and be happy. The Langostino's were over cooked, which made them tough, but they still had a nice flavor. I rarely complain in restaurants, unless something is really off. Over cooked Langostino's don't meet that level. :) For entree's we chose one of the specials and a pasta dish from the menu. The special was twin 4 ounce filets, wrapped in bacon, served with garlic mashed and baby asparagus. The filets were cooked to perfection, very tender, and super tasty. The garlic mashed were delicious, served with thinly sliced fried onions over the top. My mashed could have been warmer, but they were still really tasty. The pasta dish, was tortellini in a very rich alfredo style cream sauce, with prosciutto, mushrooms, and peas. This one was over the top in every way, richness, flavors, and appearance. Absolutely an explosion of flavor on a plate. For dessert we split a cannoli and had an espresso.
I love this place. The people working there are super friendly and very helpful. The place itself is really comfortable and homey. The food was really good. Our server was great. She knew the menu well and was great about checking in on us to make sure things were okay. Same can be said for the rest of the dining room staff. It's so awesome to finally have a genuine, old school, real Italian Restaurant in town. The place was booming last night by the time we finished up. If you like Italian food, the real dealio, and comfortable surroundings, all served up by really nice people, at reasonable prices. Capri Sogno is a must try, in my humble opinion. Welcome to Plainfield Capri, we'll be back. PS...also worth a mention, we stopped by the wine and cheese shop next door. Awesome place. Big selection, and nice folks. We bought a few bottles. We plan on going there to eat, soon. The aroma's in both Capri and the Wine shop are enough to make anyone who loves food go nuts. :)

Read moreWe moved out here a couple years ago. Love trying new 4-5 star Italian restaurants. I gave this place a 3 star not for the food but for the service. My daughters and I called to set up reservations. They were no longer taking reservations. Was told on the phone we could still walk in and would be a 15-20 minute wait. Decided to give it a try instead of going to the city. When we walked in. The waiting area is a 4x6 area. Lady at front told me 25 minute wait. I asked my oldest if she wanted to wait or go somewhere else. She replied she wanted to wait and give it a try. The lady in the front replied. “We have a sister restaurant down the road and they serve good PIZZA that’s kid friendly” very unprofessional and uncalled for. My kids are well behaved and eat at high restaurants often. If I wanted pizza I would have sat at home and ordered pizza. I’m a mom that works hard and likes to take kids out once a week as a family. While everyone’s walking in with reservations, is fine. I understand the wait I have as a walk in. However, it really got to me when two other couples walked in 20 and 30 minutes after we have been waiting with out reservations and I watched one go upstairs and the other literally got seated 5 minutes after arriving. Rubbed me so wrong. We finished our meals as we were not going to leave with out atleast trying it, reguardless of the service we were encountering. I was asked if I needed a box multiple times. Til my youngest was finishing her meal, our waitress finally caught on and told bust boy no boxes. However l, I shouldn’t have to repeat myself about no boxes after every course or dish. still left a very decent tip as that is my job taking up space in their restaurant. Food was okay. We will not come back even with a reservation as their is many respectful and great Italian restaurants out in this area. Very disappointing on service and remarks when arriving. Suggestions are fine but it’s not what you say, it’s how you say it. Just very disappointing, we have never had service in any 4-5 star restaurants as we did tonight. I could not give this place anymore then a 3 star rating. I’m glad we had gotten the chance to give it a try tho. Thanks for the opportunity to dine at...
Read moreMy husband took me here for our anniversary last Friday. We had a reservation, so we were seated right away. Unfortunately, the first floor area, where we sat, was loud and felt cramped. The bar is right on top of most of the tables, and the tables are right on top of each other. Since baseball was on the teo large TVs at the ba, I did not feel like I was at a romantic and/or upscale restauran, AND the noise level made it very difficult to carry on a conversation with my husband, who was sitting only a foot away. As far as the food, we both enjoyed our entrees, but the sides and bread, fir the most part, were extremely mediocre. The bread they gave us was stale, chewy, and served at room temperature. The salads were average, at best. However, what rI found really unappetizing was the cold, unseasoned, pasty mashed potatoes they served with the steak special I ordered. The only good side was the grilled asparagus . As far as the main entreed, I enjoyed my steak. It was tender and seasoned well, and my husband liked his "pasta a la mama" dish. His pasta included a spicier sauce with sausage, and he ate every bite. We ordered dessert and coffee, as is our tradition on our anniversary. The coffee was very good, as was the creme brulee my husband ordered. I ordered the lemon cake that comes with a raspberry sauce. The cake and sauce were very tasty and complimented each other very well, but there was some sort of paper stuck to the bottom of the cake, so I couldn't eat the bottom layer of ththee cake. I wasn't going to sit there and pick the paper off the cake in front of everyone sitting around me. As far as the service, it was excellent. Our server was Tony, and he was not only attentive , but he was able to make good recommendations. He knew the menu backward and forward. All in all, I would give this place another try, but not on a busy Friday night, when I am hoping to have a conversation, let alone for an anniversary dinner. Also, I would NEVER order an entree that included those college dormitory mashed...
