El Barrio II — Restaurant in Plainfield

I was recommended el barrio ii by a friend, so coming from Naperville was a bit of a drive. My wife put in the order at the counter and was met with a rude cashier. Taco Tuesday as posted on their website had a variety of tacos for $1. Not until after we paid $80 for our entire meal (11 tacos, ceviche, elote, horchata, torta, quesadilla) we find out, taco Tuesday had changed to $1.50 for only pollo and al pastor. What kind of taco Tuesday does not include carne asada (which we were charged $3.50 per taco)? A heads up would have been nice! Now getting to the food, the carne asada was fine but I've had better next door at the BP gas station tacos. The pollo and al pastor was fine as well. The ceviche was very salty and the elote was either cooked too soft or from a can. The only item we truly enjoyed was horchata. Quesadilla and torta were average at best. Long Overdue Review – Consistently Outstanding

I’ve been to this place many times and can’t believe I’ve never taken the time to write an honest review. It’s long overdue.

The food here is exceptional — every single dish I’ve tried has been flavorful, fresh, and clearly made by a kitchen team that knows exactly what they’re doing. You can taste the quality and care in every bite. The service? Just as impressive. Friendly, efficient, and consistent across every visit.

On top of that, the place is immaculately clean. From the dining area to the restrooms, everything is always spotless — a clear sign of pride and professionalism behind the scenes.

This place has never once disappointed, no matter how many times I’ve come. That kind of consistency is rare and worth recognizing.

I have tried many casual Mexican places in the Naperville area, this is the best place. Here are the reasons. Service is always on time and to the point. 2 quality and flavor of their steak, shredded chicken, and ground beef is always delicious. You can actually taste the flavor and the seasoning. Free chips and salsa, chips are medium thickness and served warm. Salsa is fresh and has a great taste, unlike some place where it taste like nothing but tomatoes. Great value, they always give you plenty of meat and they do not skimp on it. Horchata is very tasty and has the right amount of cinnamon flavor. They always give you two side sauces, I like the red/orange one, spicy but not too spicy.
