I must be honest, fair, and transparent. Definitely will never return or recommend this restaurant to any of our friends or family. We were not impressed from the start with parking, appeal of the bar, atmosphere, everything seemed outlandish in cost, poor quality. My wife and I entered for our reservation and was told it would be a wait for our table. We did get a temporary seat at the bar, even though it was cramped due to not many seats in the bar area. We had enough time to have 2 drinks and at a price tag of an average of $17- we had already been hit with a $75 ticket with tip. That hurt before even getting to the prices for our meals. Be careful I would think this could be a tactic to make customers go to the bar 1st before seating on purpose because this sure didn't seem like they were that busy** As we sat at our table it felt like we were eating in a large warehouse. We happened to notice a few close friends who were leaving as we were sitting who said "OHH MY this place will never make it" So my feeling had been confirmed this was going to be a very painful experience - and that feeling was spot on! Our waitress was sweet and there was nothing she did wrong. From the start at the bar we noticed the food stained diry paper school style print menus - they totally lacked class. We kept staying positive but when we ordered Wagyu Corn Dogs for an appetizer and they were 3 little bites that were like the size of total 1 hot dog from Costco for $1.50 --- I have to be really honest a Costco hot dog tastes just as good. So once we got to the meal the Wagyu short rib was just OK a bit more chewy than expected but I would not say it was bad. I will say there are so many other things I would rather have at so many different restaurants around town. That alone will not make me want to come back - especially for the price. Overall the food was just OK...but definitely wasn't anything to brag about either. The only thing we can speak positively about here is: The entertainer Chad Crooner - he was great!
Overall not many positives and we believe unfortunately the word will travel fast around Plainfield. Nothing upscale, cozy or romantic. Plainfield desperately needed a St. Elmo's, Tony's or even Capital Grill competitor ---but this doesn't even come close. There are way too many other great places with better food, quality, service, and atmosphere but you may have to drive Downtown or even Carmel to get to those: Plainfield isn't on that map yet.
All and all; with overly priced drinks, food,....this is not a place we will return to or recommend. I will even say it successfully ruined our date night that my wife and I rarely even...
Read moreThis restaurant has become one of the most consistently poorly run establishments of its caliber that I’ve ever visited. I’ve given them three chances, and they’ve failed every time. The first visit, shortly after opening, was the best—but still not great. We tried again for a Christmas movie night, and the popcorn tasted like chemicals and the food is mediocre at best. On top of that, it was a hassle just to get seated with our friends.
I gave it one last shot yesterday (2/23) and took my daughter around 4:30 PM—not an unusual time—and the place was nearly empty. Despite this, the staff seemed completely unprepared for customers. The three girls at the front scrambled, one muttering, “Where do we put them?”—even though the entire theater room was wide open. They ended up seating us upstairs alone, and we waited over 10 minutes before a waitress even appeared.
When she finally arrived, she ignored us at first, chatting instead with another waitress about how they weren’t left with what they needed for their shift. They didn’t even acknowledge us sitting right next to them. I had to interrupt their conversation… “Hey - do you know who the waitress is up here?” - and she whipped around shocked I was there, and said “that would be me.”
To top it off, the Coke I ordered was syrup-heavy and flat. I had noticed as she was pouring it that I could hear a lot of empty CO2 coming out, and at one point, I saw her sniffing the liquid coming from the tap from a different cup—yet she still served it to me instead of going downstairs to get a proper one. And then there was my meal—the fried chicken sandwich I ordered came out grilled, pink in the middle, and completely undercooked.
This was supposed to be a special dinner after a daddy-daughter dance—my daughter’s first “fancy restaurant” experience. The only redeeming part was the waitress, who—once she realized we were there—did the right thing by comping part of the meal. However, I could never justify wasting my money here again and strongly encourage others to avoid it as well. This still ran me $45 for this visit because I found it important to take care of the waitress. Despite not being noticed at the start, she was completely embarrassed and it’s obvious she isn’t given the tools to properly do her job.
I had high hopes for this place when it opened in Plainfield, but unless they make serious operational changes and hire competent staff, it’s destined to...
Read moreThe Prewitt needs to decide what it wants to be ; a fine dining experience?, entertainment venue that serves food?, a go to casual restaurant with moderate prices?. Saturday February 25th was when we treated relatives that helped us in a big move last summer. My wife and I had dinner here last November for the first time to celebrate our anniversary . That experience was ok for only having launched a short time before, giving a 5 star. However , we arrived Saturday to a vibrant good crowd but a very loud band playing on stage . Our reservation was 7:30pm. The music act was covering 1980's rock music. Did I say LOUD???? We were seated at one of the 6 seater bar level tables. Throughout our entire time there we literally could not hear conversation from one end of the table to the other. We yelled at each other to converse. Our server explained that acts had been booked without knowing how acoustics would work in this space . Future bookings will take that in to account. So, beware for dinner and review what acts are coming in on the Prewitt website and look them up first for type of music. Ok, so terrible ambience this night. Bar service was slow for our cocktails which was interesting because most customers were just drinking beer. The food.....the pork chops ordered by two of our party were outstanding . The seitan dish was ok. Two of use ordered the bolognese pasta dish, one with just sauce no meat. Both were ok but the sauce was fairly flavorless . Lastly , the swordfish.....a smallish 5-6 ounce square ordered blackened...very little flavor ...dry....a few chunks of potato and micro greens . Salads came out after a long wait and within minutes our entrees arrived. Our server apologized on the timing. As such, by the time we ate our salads all our food was cold . We did get comped for salad cost but still....In all, food prices are not commensurate for what you get. I suspect the prices are certainly driven by the sourcing and using higher cost ingredients and also covering the cost of "entertainment". Entertainment... light jazz...bass/drums/piano .....acoustic guitar .....would be great for this venue. We'll try lunch and brunch to see how those...
