(Last visited August 19, 2023.) Word on the street is that a new ice cream spot opened up in Plainville serving up some super creamy delicacies! So we made our way over to check this place out!
Atmosphere/Appearance: This place is cute and is meant to be a takeaway spot. The GPS will take you much further down the plaza than you need to go, but Lacroix's is right on the very end. There's no seating inside so you have to eat in your car, take it to go or you can eat outside!
Service: Lauren and Shawn are the owners and are the ones that are running the show! They were so nice, sweet and will happily come out to talk to you if they aren't busy making the ice cream in the back!
Food: When we went they weren't offering "flights" of ice cream just yet, but they may be now, however, the owners were kind of enough to create 2 for my wife and I! I got to try 7 flavors and they are as follows! One thing I will say, every single flavor is SUPER CREAMY because they use a higher buttermilk-fat content to make their ice cream so it will melt much faster than most ice creams I've had. First up was Coffee Heath which wasn't too sweet, chocolaty with just a hint of coffee flavors, but again, super creamy! Next up was Peanut Butter Cup which was SO SMOOTH. Absolutely sensational and was better than a Reese's Cup itself. It tasted like the ice cream was literally infused with peanut butter somehow! It was executed so well. Next up was the Black Raspberry Chip that had a cool look to it with it's deep purple. Another super smooth, creamy base that was just a bit fruity, but very subtle. This one left me speechless. Next up was their Cookie Dough, which is Shawn's favorite. This was the sweetest of the 4 that I've had here so far, but it was done very well. There were little bits of chocolate and cookie dough throughout which broke up the creamy texture and added just a little bit of a crunch. Next up was Butterfinger, which was softer than I expected because you know, Butterfingers are crunchy. Lol. It was delightful, yet soft and the flavors weren't as "loud" as I was expecting. Next up was "Cereal Milk" when the milk used for the ice cream is made up of a milk that was infused with a cereal of choice. It was butter, smooth and just tasted incredible. They can do no wrong! Last, but not least was their "Oreo" and it was phenomenal. It looked like there were both actual Oreo cookie pieces and brownies in it! Just so chocolaty and balanced!
Value: It's GOOD ice cream made mere feet away from where you order so be prepared to pay to support this local business because it's absolutely worth it! It's not too bad though. I honestly can't remember how much things were, but it wasn't awful.
In conclusion, I loved this place and have made returned visits! The flavors are just off the chain and I love how they rotate them too! It's not the same thing all the time so pay attention to their social media pages to see what they have currently! You won't be...
Read moreIf you treasure ice cream without all of the sugary toppings please be sure to visit this hidden gem of an ice cream parlor. I frequent ice cream shops often with my kids. We are not shy about traveling far and wide for a taste of the cold sweet side. This was such a worthwhile visit. The owners are a husband and wife duo who believe in putting the goodness of ice cream first. The service was very friendly. He went out of his way to give samples and answer any questions about the flavors and ingredients. The shop is small but cute and sweet. The taste and creaminess of the ice cream was great. My only slightly negative are the cup portions. The kid size is very kiddie with one scoop at $4. The next size up is two scoops @$5 or $5.50 and three scoops for the sundae/large size. I'm unsure of the largest size price. The cones are tasty. The two scoop option on the cone was a good amount of ice cream. The waffle cones are homemade as well as the "jimmies" or as those from CT call them chocolate sprinkles are actually chocolate and not those waxy ones from the grocery store. Make sure and check the hours of operation before visiting. They will be different when the summer hours kick in. I will definitely be visiting this place again. Be sure to check out the photos. I'm sure you will...
Read moreI ventured into LaCroix’s homemade ice cream expecting a simple frozen treat. What I got instead was a life-changing existential crisis wrapped in a waffle cone. Let me explain.
The staff greeted me with such genuine warmth that I briefly wondered if I’d accidentally stumbled into some sort of ice cream cult.
Now, here’s where things got problematic. They offered me samples of their flavors. ALL of them. This sounds generous until you realize it’s basically ice cream torture. How am I supposed to choose between 20+ flavors when each spoonful tastes like it was crafted by frozen dessert angels? I stood there for what felt like an eternity, paralyzed by deliciousness, probably looking like a deer caught in headlights – except the headlights were made of premium dairy and pure joy.
I finally settled on their coffee flavor. This wasn’t just ice cream – this was caffeinated poetry in frozen form.
The texture? Imagine if clouds went to culinary school and majored in being impossibly smooth and creamy. The coffee flavor was so perfectly balanced that I’m convinced they must have a PhD in bean science. Not too bitter, not too sweet – just pure coffee essence captured in dairy perfection.
Fair warning: after eating here, all other ice cream will taste like frozen...
