Really, don't let the southern thing discourage you. It's really good. By Texas pizza standards, it's 5 stars. But still, I reserve 5 for perfection, should it ever happen... I'm from NY True NY pizza has thin, but not paper thin crust. Since moving to Texas many years ago, I've gradually learned to appreciate thinner and thinner crust, mainly because here, most places ruin the crust, and if it's too thick and often over cooked, unlike in NY where it gets crisp yet still moist and chewy, here, it gets cardboard like and leathery. Since topping are so prominant int he south, thichker crust to support them is common. So thicker, tough overcooked crust is aweful, and most of what I see here.
That said, I learned to love very thin crust if it's doen right. Eddys has very thin crust which I love.
The dough is good (chewy, and some flavor).
THe cheese is plentiful and gui (some placesget the crust right, but cut obvious corners on quality cheese --for example, Lovers Pizza). Not Eddys.
THe sauce is flavorful but more fresh tomato tasting than overpowering pungent.
Good pizza is a ballance of all 3 and no one ingredient overbearing, and that's Eddys,.
Last, and I remain at awe with being impressed over this... Eddy's is 95% consistent. It's the only place where I just order the pizza as is and don't feel I have to tell them exactly how to cook it.
The crust is consistantly thin, and even through out. THe cooking temp is always correct. THe cheese is always evenly and consistently ample.
It's my staple/comfort food and place...
The owners I believe are Albanian, not Italian, but heck... Albania is a heck of a lot closer to Italy than the other places with Texas local owners!
Last, they management/help is ultra friendly. Many places, like Salis in Garland, Napolis, and many many more have perfected the NY attitude but sadly not the pizza.
It refreshing to see superior NY pizza with southern hospitality :)
Wnat to try some other styles of also great pizza? My top local picks: Cavalli in Irving for authentic DOC certified Italy style Pizza by Alex in Garland for authentic, outstanding Chicago style (get...
Read moreI'm honestly shocked that this restaurant is rated so highly on Google. I see no reason to eat at Eddy's when the Domino's next door has superior food for a better price.
Food: expensive and mediocre. The complimentary bread was good, but everything else was substandard. The pizzas my friends and I ordered were crudely put together and very difficult to eat because they were incredibly oily and floppy. The tomato sauce and cheese used in the pizzas were unsatisfactory. The pasta was...okay, I guess, but not worth $11.95.
Service: absolutely terrible. Waiter was nice, but the food took a long time to come out (30 minutes) and the owner (who also happens to be the cashier) was incredibly rude. One of my vegetarian friends encountered a problem with her order: she asked for a "meat tortellini alfredo" without meat, and the waiter assured her that they would be able to accommodate her order. However, when she received her order and started eating, she realized that there was meat on the inside of her dish. She tried to cordially bring up the issue with the restaurant, but the owner refused to take off the cost for the incorrect order on the receipt. The owner aggressively stated that there is no "meatless tortellini alfredo" on the menu, and asked her if "she knew how to read". The owner claimed that it is the customer's fault for "not knowing how to read the menu" rather than the restaurant's fault for incorrectly fulfilling a customer's order.
My friends and I went here expecting to have a good time, but we left feeling unsatisfied and indignant. If you're craving pizza or pasta, you should probably go to Domino's, Urban Crust, or Olive Garden instead - all these restaurants are close by and will give you more bang...
Read moreI went to pick up two orders. When I arrived, they could not find the two orders. It took him 5 minutes just to locate the orders. He said they are not ready, 45 minute wait. We were told 30 minutes on the phone, so I mentioned that. He responded in a aggressive yelling voice, THEY ARE NOT READY. I said I'm sorry did you just yell at me? Still yelling he responded, well they are not ready. I asked to speak to the manager or owner, and he said that was him. I then asked if he spoke to all his paying customers like that. He said I don't care but your pizzas are not ready. He then asked me to wait outside because I was making a scene. I said I'm sorry there is a scene going on but you yelled at me in front of the entire restaurant for trying to pick up my order, when you could have said, "Mam I'm sorry they are not ready, would you like to sit and wait?" I would have been fine waiting. I then, told him where he could put his pizza and left.
I have never been more embarrassed. And just trying to...
