It’s really unfortunate that the ownership changed so much about the restaurant. Since moving to the area in 2018, Akari had been our de facto celebration restaurant. We’ll be deciding on a different one moving forward.
The experience was not poor to be clear, it just fell short of what we received with Akari. The interior decor updates are nice, and the style of the menu is a good touch, but the actual menu contents and prices have changed notably. Favorite rolls are gone, and similarly styled ones were a mixed bag in terms of enjoyment compared to the prior. I think my biggest gripe with the menu is the lack of variety between different rolls. When going to Akari, it was always a challenge to decide which rolls to get because there were so many really good sounding options and this time we were struggling to decide on what third to try out because nothing really stood out as a ‘must try’.
The quality felt slightly lower, I struggled to keep the rolls together more than I had before. The ingredients were good and fresh, but the rolls that are offered were a mixed bag. One was fantastic and captured the kind of experience we had with Akari, but the other two were okay but honestly forgettable. Which is fine until you look at the bill and realize you are paying $20 for an ‘okay’ roll. We’ll be steering clear of the higher priced ones.
We’ll still go back at times as its super close and its not all bad, but this new edition lost a lot of what made...
