The food here was very good. The reason I am giving 1 star is that this past Saturday night my wife and I went here to eat we had bread, appetizers and then our meal. After I had eaten maybe 10% the waiter came to bring me a large glass of water, which he spilled all over my phone, my appetizer and entree and me. He grabbed my plate and apologized profusely and ran to the kitchen. In the meantime there is water and ice all over the table so I wait a couple minutes and he doesn't come out of the back (I assume he is making me a new entree, Cuban sandwich and rice) . So I go to the men's room, grab a bunch of paper towels and clean off the table, take my phone out of the case and clean that and then clean my jeans. Still no waiter. Finally he comes out and hands me back my entree. His kitchen has cut off the bite marks from my sandwich and placed it on a new plate along with my wet rice. Fine, I take off all the soggy bread, eat the inside of the sandwich (which still tasted good) and left him a 20% tip in cash on the table because I knew this man was embarrassed. Then, we wait, 10 minutes after we are done I go to the front and a cook comes out and I ask for our bill. You will need to wait for the waiter sir. Ok, where is the waiter? He's been in the restroom. Ok, so we wait. Another 10 minutes and he finally comes out. I hand him my credit card and ask for the bill. He takes the card and runs it and comes back and I sign it. Realizing that nothing, not even our $1.99 bread or $4 coke was comped. So I pay the full $43.50 plus the 20% tip in cash and leave. On the way out my waiter stops me and says "I'm sorry again. Is your phone ok? I am glad I was able to serve you tonight and can't wait to see you again." Hmmm... not sure that's going to happen. But thank you anyway. I hope the service is better for future guests. Response from customer to owner 6/14/19 Your staff ABSOLUTELY DID cut the end of my sandwich off and re-served it on a new plate. Would you like me to post pictures?? They should have considered comping part of the bill, or the whole bill to begin with. Ever since that happened, my speaker has not worked on my phone! And yet You, as the owner, are frustrated??? How about teaching your staff that when they make mistakes that THEY KNOW THEY DID, they do a better job in terms of taking care of the customer RIGHT THEN. Instead of handing me the full bill and saying, "I am glad I was able to serve you tonight, can't wait to see you next time" . You deserve to have this review online so other customers can see your initial response. You're frustrated?? Try being the customer that has to buy...
Read moreI have been here a few times so I will give an honest and fair review. When they opened I liked the place a lot. The past few times it has been overall disappointing. Not horrible or bad but disappointing. Maybe business isn’t booming because Of COVID or maybe because the past few times I went towards the end of the night, but the food wasn’t TOO impressive and overall didn’t taste well prepared.
First I will talk about the positives! The atmosphere is nice and cozy, the employees are chill, nice music and art. Their Coffee is delicious, and the flan for desert is the best I ever had! We ordered a bit of everything, and some items were great! Where this place really shines I think is appetizers. The tostones were very tasty, and the mojito sauce was pungent but good when mixed with the salty tostones. The loaded Yucca was very delicious and had bits of fried yucca with picadillo and sour cream. I think it’s the best thing they have. I don’t eat pork but my friends who were there got chicharrones and they said they were great. I can see myself coming back for just coffee and appetizers since they were all fresh and delicious.
Now onto the negatives. I ordered a chicken sandwich cubano with pickle and garlic sauce. The chicken on it was extremely dry. Like sat in an refrigerator uncovered dry, and kind of sour and no brining or seasoning. It tasted almost like canned chicken breast. It Was not fresh at all and lukewarm. The bread and sauce were nice, but I ended up putting some of the mojito sauce on it to juice it up a bit. We got a mofongo which was decent, but a bit under seasoned. We also got the Ropa Vieja, which was tender but again it was under seasoned and lukewarm. This can be remedied with salt, but seasoning while it’s cooking lends to a better taste overall. Also the portion was a bit on the small side. The fact that the place is a bit on the pricey side made the meal overall disappointing, considering it seemed like i was getting the leftovers from the day.
So to reiterate The place is charming and the people who work here are nice, and I will go back to give it another shot. Maybe I will go during the lunch rush and the food will be fresher. The appetizers, dessert and coffee are in point though. I will easily go back for that during a lunch break or as a quick meal to start my afternoon. But the entrees need a little bit of work. I will go back in the future maybe when things open up and update my review accordingly! I want to like this place and have had wonderful meals there, but the past few times have been nothing to get too...
Read moreThis is exactly the place I’ve been looking for. I’ve searched Cuban restaurants before and found the results to be too vague, listing all types of Latin cuisine but mostly Tex-Mex. I passed by The Latin Pig while running errands and was drawn to it. Despite having other things to do I went inside and was so excited by what I found! The interior was vibrant with sky blue high backed booths, cultural art on warm toned walls and the sound of Latin American music washed over me, somehow both mellow and upbeat at the same time. The man who greeted me engaged in conversation with me about the restaurant, which he informed me had been going strong for thirteen years. I asked if he was the boss and he said “when my wife is not here.” I found that so charming. We started talking about the menu and he asked me if I’d ever had a Cuban sandwich. I told him I had always wanted to try a Cubano but was deterred by many of its main ingredients (pork, mustard, pickle) being things I don’t like. He told me they make their pickles in house so they don’t have the overwhelming sour flavor I would be used to. I decided to go for it. Did not regret that decision one bit! The sandwich came out with cheese oozing out the sides. The pork was tender and pink. The bread had a perfectly toasted exterior crust that made each bite both crunchy and soft at the same time. I hardly noticed the pickles. They really aren’t like American pickles. They have subtle flavor that complement the rest of the flavors, not overpower them. When I ordered this Cubano I intended to give half to my boyfriend. By halfway through the first half I determined I couldn’t share what was left and had to order a separate Cubano to bring home to him. I had only tried one Cubano before this but from a regular restaurant, not a Cuban restaurant. I always suspected that if I tasted an authentic one it would be a beautiful experience and this turned out to be true. Guys, do not sleep on this hidden gem. Being your friends, bring your girlgriend or boyfriend. Go on a quiet Tuesday for a little something special. Try something you haven’t tried before....
