I'm super disappointed by the food and I was astonished because several people have recommended olive burger over the years. I have heard great reviews of this place and I finally tried it today and was extremely disappointed. I ordered the gyro sandwich which was $8 just for a sandwich, and I was planning on ordering either their sweet potato fries @ $3.29 or the fried zucchini appetizer @ $4. The employees showed me the size of the container they use and it was so little that it was almost cute. I opted not to get any of this side dishes because I feel like it was a rip off for the quantity and high price. I did not order any specifications or modifications on the gyro sandwich so they made it as they normally would but I did ask for extra tzatziki sauce on the side and it comes in tiny little 1 ounce containers so I ended up needing four of them to eat the sandwich. The gyro sandwich was not very good in my opinion. Whomever prepared the sandwich was extremely heavy handed with the raw onion, to the point that every single bite for the first half of the sandwich only tasted like onion, and I didn't even taste the gyro meat until I got sick of all of the onion and tried to remove it. Then after I removed all of the onions that I could see the sandwich still had onions hiding that I missed. The gyro was literally inundated with raw onion and it had very little tomato and cheap iceberg lettuce. Whoever made the sandwich folded it up so it was not distributed evenly, so the top half of the sandwich was mostly vegetables and the bottom half of the sandwich was mostly meat. Last three bites of the gyro sandwich only contained gyro meat which is a blend of lamb and beef. Other than the ridiculous amount of raw onion, the most disappointing part of the sandwich was the stale pita bread. The pita bread was not soft or fresh at all. The bread was stale and chewy and then they grilled the heck out of it which ended up creating hard parts of bread that ended up poking my mouth repeatedly, so I felt like I was eating Captain Crunch cereal or something hard, considering how many times the roof of my mouth got poked by charred pita bread. I probably will not go back but if I do I guarantee I will not order the gyro again despite that it came recommended. I feel like the sandwiches are a little overpriced and all of the sides and appetizers are extremely overpriced considering the portion size. At 4 o'clock in the afternoon I was the only customer in the entire establishment, red flag... The only positive thing that I can say is that the guy working the register was very...
Read moreIt's hard to rate this place. I didn't like it enough to every want to go back, but it wasn't terrible either.
It has a lot of the things that make for a good meal. I fed 4 people for a little over $30, which I felt was a reasonable price. The burgers and gyros weren't bad. They weren't great either, but they were meaty: 1/3 pound patty on the burger. And the fries were perfect. In fact I don't remember ever eating better fries. And that was the best part of the whole experience.
The first thing that I didn't like was the service. The line was long for a Monday night at 9 pm. There is only one register, and it apparently barely works. Then we weren't given enough cups for our orders, so I had to get back in the long line for another cup.
The wait was terrible too. It took a long time for the food to come out, and our order was incomplete when it did. The whole time, the restaurant was cramped and loud, so it was impossible to pass the time with conversation. I got a headache from the noise of customers shouting at each other like it was a sports bar or something.
And back on the burger... As I mentioned it was ok... Not great. The burger itself had a weak flavor, even though it was greasy, and the vegetables were flat and only lightly applied. The burger was gray and flat, as if it had been smooshed. And the only thing I could actually taste was the olives. Frankly, it tasted like a fast food burger. Which, I guess for the price I paid is reasonable, but I was hoping for better.
I left full, and with my curiosity sated. I won't be going back, especially to eat in because there are plenty of better options in that price range. But if I had to choose takeout between Olive and Braum's, which is nearby, I suppose I'd...
Read moreGood location with plenty of parking. Interior is clean and bright. The decor is a bit random - one wall has Texas memorabilia, drink area has soda signs, and one wall has framed flowers. The counter to order at is in a weird spot and I feel like they could do away with the soda cooler since they offer fountain drinks. The menu on the flat screens is much more helpful than the black hanging menu and the wall of to-go containers on the counter is displeasing to the eye. It would be nice to just have the full look into the kitchen instead. I was impressed by the lunch time crowd on a Wednesday. We ordered a cheeseburger with tater tots and a grilled caesar wrap with sweet potato fries. Cheeseburger was pretty decent and tasted as if it came right off the grill in your own backyard. The tater tots lacked seasoning, but the sweet potato fries were cooked perfectly and had a bit of sugar sprinkled on them. Yum! I liked the caesar dressing and the chicken seasoning of the grilled caesar wrap. It even had croutons for an added crunch! I was disappointed though that my wrap was covered in red onions when no where on the menu were onions mentioned. Unfortunately, I can stand raw onions and had to completely dissect my wrap. I'm not a fan of surprises...
