So, this review is long overdue.
In March of last year, I came to this place to get my PS3 fixed after being broken for over a year at that time.
I turn it in and I was originally told that it would take at least two weeks. Two weeks pass by and it's still not fixed. I call in and I was told it would take longer because they were missing the necessary parts for the repair. After that, I stopped calling and decided to wait until they called me to say that my PS3 was fixed.
Eventually, weeks turned into months on-end and I never got call back from them. I called them back in June after not hearing from them for a long time, and I was told that the parts that were necessary for the repair was taking too long because they weren't easy to find (my PS3 is the original 60GB model). I didn't mind at all because there was nothing I could do with a broken PS3 and was willing to wait longer if I had to.
And then I finally got my PS3 back, fixed, in about late July. The first thing I noticed when I first received it back was that my name tag on my unit was missing. After I took it home and booted it up, I found that my HDD was completely wiped. Then I found out that my PS3 started having backwards compatibility problems that I didn't have before the repair. Finally, the last thing I noticed was that the manufacturing sticker had a different model number on it.
This all led me to believe that this wasn't my PS3. After realizing all this after I got it back, I got pissed because I thought they just took my HDD and just stuck it in another unit because they were tired of dealing with me and just wanted to be done with it. I called them and told the owner all about it, angrily, because I thought they screwed me big time. He assured me that that wasn't the case, told me to bring my PS3 back in, and said he would take care of everything.
And so, I bring it back in and wait a few more weeks. I finally got it back in August, which means that the total wait time was five months. I go back to pick it up, I was fully refunded all the money the repair cost, and they gave me a much needed Dualshock 3 free of charge.
Overall, everything was resolved in the end and I was satisfied. My PS3 is working fine and all my PS1 and PS2 games run normal now (I'm still having issues with "Megaman X Collection"). I didn't mind the wait because, like I said before, there was nothing I could've done with a broken PS3 and I was well taken care of after problems arose. I was originally going to give this four stars but I'm giving them five stars because, UNLIKE THE LAST GUY IN THE PLANO AREA WHO REPAIRED MY PS3 TWICE AND BROKE DOWN BOTH TIMES BEFORE I CAME TO FX, this repair didn't crap out on me within the first month...unlike the first guy whose two repairs didn't even last a month ON...
Read moreBought a copy of Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion for Xbox 360 from here earlier today. It had the game manual, map, and warranty card. It seems to be in very good condition, and it’s great to see such care taken for old games like that.
Popular and current games tend to be above standard retail price, but unpopular games on unpopular systems tend to be fairly cheap. There is also a bargain budget section that has movies when I came in. It seems fake copies are detected and thus not bought, since aside from things that were expensive and still being sold, the most expensive games were for platforms like the GameCube (a currently very popular console). Undoubtedly there’s a better selection from online retailers, but the games available here stand out for often being a bit cheaper and better tested for QA. A lot of games that sold worse at launch but later because classics weren’t available, but the ones that were available weren’t priced outside of expected value (in fact, a bit better than GameStop in many cases).
I also saw that they had games for a wide range of systems, controllers, adapters, test hardware, relevant informative materials, etc. A customer was talking about how well a Dreamcast he bought from there worked and how hard it was to find games for it nowadays. There was also another customer picking up a console she had repaired there.
Staff was friendly and easy to talk to. They seem to be quite knowledgeable about the topic as well.
Store was also well maintained physically, including good lighting and an absence of dust.
Every time I come in, I see they are hosting a different gaming competition/event.
It’s a bit far from my house, but I’m glad that a specialty store like this exists within biking distance. It adds a lot of value to the neighborhood, especially since a lot of the console publishers tend to not service old hardware. There’s definitely a good amount here for gaming fans, and the surrounding shops make for a nice experience (the traditional physical hobby shop, Starbucks, and Platos Closet are some highlights).
If I had one complaint, it would be that it is a bit difficult to reach from the bike path (which is why I don’t go more often), but that’s a problem with unkempt trees and narrow sidewalks and more so a problem with the city’s strange road and...
Read moreRecently visited the store after we've called in to confirm they clean old video games. The person who answered the phone responded that it's usually done for free, but because of the quantity of the games (20+), he would have to charge us about $1 each. We were completely fine with that as we really needed it done since we've intended to sell these games we've accumulate throughout the year and needed some help. When we arrived and spoke to the manager, he immediately got offended and was extremely personal responding that (not verbatim) "I wouldn't put my employees though this" referring to cleaning the games despite the fact that a few of the employees at the time were just sitting around in the store, and also adding that since we're "making money off of (him)", he'd have to charge $2 per game. Obviously, this was not the price that was previously negotiated and I was appalled he'd double the price just because of our backstory situation.
It's extremely disappointing to see poor business ethics. It made no sense how we're "making money" off of him, especially seeing as he had practically -NOTHING- to lose and only money to gain since he would only had the opportunity to benefit from it. We didn't have to go there and we could easily find another place to take our business to; this is just not the way to deal with people who approach you for your service.
Will not return again due to the rude customer service, dishonesty, and the discriminating personal judgments used when operating the business. When we left, we thank him for his service and said our goodbyes -- in which he made no effort to respond. I would definitely recommend avoiding this place because he has zero respect for...
