7/29/23 update: Service speed was great during this visit. Despite of line of people, everything was served fast.
First time trying Taiwanese rice rolls and I liked them. I got the A10 and loved the variety of textures. It started with slightly chewy rice (sushi like short grains) then crunchy from the pickled veggies and something else I couldn’t make of and soft of the meat floss and creaminess of the salted egg yolk. It was umami packed with a good balance of sweet and savory. The pancakes with fried dough was very interesting. The hot dog, lettuce, sauces, and added on fried dough and spam wrapped in a chewy egg tortilla was good and something I would definitely like to eat as a late night snack after some drinks.
Now, it’s true what other reviewers said about the long wait. I placed my online to be picked up in 45 minutes and when arrived it was not ready but they prioritized the order. In total it was about 1hr and 15 mins. However, while I waited, I witnessed that no one was slacking and everyone was working diligently and they were fairly busy. For this reason, I’m not being too harsh in the ratings. I speculate that the miss is due to having a less than efficient production process and more channels of incoming orders (in person, online and phone) than they can handle.
I hope they take the time to evaluate their process and temporarily limit the sources of incoming orders because the food is good but the delays would be unacceptable for people who a grabbing lunch and had to return to work...
Read moreThis is one of my favorite spots for comfort Taiwanese breakfast! I love all the options available here, and everything is made fresh to order. The prices might be a little expensive for a rice roll, but I love that you can find something you like. I always take my friends here for breakfast when they visit, and all of them enjoy the food even if it's their first time.
My favorite roll is the Taiwan roll because I love the sausage, salted egg, and pork floss! It reminds me of Vietnamese xoi, except in a roll form. My challenge is wanting to order a bit of everything to try, but not everyone has the same taste. My boyfriend likes the sesame with youtiao and soup dumplings. The dumplings aren't the best you get in Dallas, but for $7, it's a solid deal. I also like their freshly made egg crepe with lettuce, and you can't go wrong with regular youtiao and hot soy milk.
One thing to be aware of is since the food is always made fresh, the wait time can be longer than you'd like. Some days we'll wait 20-30 mins for our food, and some days it'll be 5-10 mins. I think they do take phone orders so I'd recommend calling them...
Read moreHorrid. My friend had the bacon rice roll and I had the traditional rice roll, sweet soy milk and fried stick. Do not trust the English on the printed menu, as it's minimal and does not fully convey what is in the rice rolls. You will need to use your smartphone to scan the QR code in order to access a more informative English menu. For those looking for real Taiwanese rice rolls, do not come here. This is a Chinese enterprise and makes what I assume are Chinese style rice rolls. (I have had Taiwanese ones. I have not had Chinese ones ) The bacon in my friend's roll was not cooked. She could not bite through it. My traditional rice roll was inexplicably oily. The fried stick was also too oily. The soy bean milk I had tasted green, and sent me to restroom quality time. Service was terrible. The clerk did not understand my request for purple rice, even though I pointed to it on the printed menu. He could not figure out how to make change from the cash I gave him and had to ask a...
