Stopped here for dinner one night and it was a mixed experience. My guest and I were seated immediately and our server was fairly quick getting our drink order and served. The water is most likely unfiltered tap water and surprisingly the iced tea had less flavor than the water. The dinner menu is incredibly limited so if you're looking for more options, this probably isn't the diner for you. Our server came and got our orders and the food came out quickly. Our orders were plated nicely, but the ingredients used are not of the best quality and the dishes tasted as such. The french fries and onion rings were pretty good and it was evident that they change their oil regularly. The Reuben was tasty, but a slightly larger portion of corned beef would have helped tremendously. The chicken sandwich was not enjoyable at all, the pickles had no crisp and the brine they used is just sour, nothing else. The chicken fillet itself was slightly rubbery, flavorless and the lettuce was a little soggy. The restaurant itself has the classic nostalgic diner look to it and it could be kept a little cleaner albeit I visited an hour or 2 before closing. Parking is spacious and the service was good. Not much on the value scale as the portions were slightly under when compared to price. In the end it's just your average diner.

It's not five stars but a lot better than the average reviews. C'mon! It's a DINER with 50's look and decor reminiscent of Happy Days where you can get a good meal at reasonable prices. It's a not a froo-froo no t-shirts kind of joint. If you look for anything else you must be a millennial who expects to have your potato chips counted and your omlets made from organic eggs laid by free range chickens. This was my second trip to Pleasant Hill Diner: the first time for breakfast (omlet, hash browns, and toast) and the second for a grilled chicken sandwich with chips and a cup of chicken rice soup. The soup was great, the chips were...uhhhh, potato chips and the sandwich was well cooked with a good flavor. This was my wife's first visit. She had a open face hot turkey sandwich with mashed potato and gravy and said she'd have it again. This was a Sunday after church lunch and it took awhile to get our food but that is not on the service but rather the kitchen. The service was good and our server was pleasant and conversational. I could see five stars if the kitchen was a tad bit faster, if the servers played more of a role in a 50's diner (I'm seeing blue jeans rolled up at the ankle, saddle shoes and a sweatshirt) and if the table juke boxes worked (alas! They are for show only!)

We nearly left as soon as we walked in the door. The outside was weedy and not kept up. The entry did not look like it had been cleaned/mopped in weeks. We were greeted right away so felt weird about turning around and leaving. We ordered a hot turkey and a hot roast beef sandwich with gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans and salad. Salad was bagged and as basic as you can get. Green beans were canned. Potatoes were from a box and tasteless. My husband's turkey gravy was full of lumps. The decor was cute, vintage diner style but the restaurant was dirty. The reviews that mention the place is clean really confuse me. It does not look like it has been clean in a very long time. The a/c vents above our table were furry with dust. The floors were filthy. Tables were leveled with wads of dirty paper napkins. There were bugs under the glass of the framed print that was on the wall by our table. The waitress was nice and a lady thanked us when we left so we have no complaints about the service but the place needs a good scrubbing and some homemade food like you would expect from a diner.

Walk with me on this ,

Don't eat here or work here. This isn't coming from a disgruntled let go employee , it's coming from someone with common sense. It's nasty. It's not clean. That kitchen is anything but clean. Half the time as a line cook I saw food on the floor black colored grease that we cooked your food in and it got changed once while I was there. Not weekly like it probably should be . Those grills get DISGUSTING , I get that they're black stones but the cooks don't clean out those food and grease traps and sometimes your food falls on that and you eat it. No one wears gloves in any process. It's bare hands for food prep, food cooking and plating it. There's also no safety precautions. No one is promoted to wear proper PPE , if a knife or spatula falls on the floor a quick rinse in the washing area with piled old food through out the day is a great wash . The noodles for the spaghetti are stored in pasta water in the fridge all day long, the pasta sauce is just precanned sauce and so is the alfredo . Almost everything small is cooked in a microwave and thrown around with dirty cooks hands. People vape in the kitchen and there's a giant fan just blowing around germs and stuff and again NO ONE wears gloves .

If something is burned or not perfect they just cover it up with other things .

The management is worse I don't really even know who is who and who does what in that diner but none of them communicate at all. Apparently I wasnt doing a good job at cooking food and that's okay that can be improved, but apparently miscommunication and favoritism spreads pretty well around the staff and of course as soon as the manager goes on vacation I went 2 weeks without a schedule before being told OVER TEXT I was fired . When I spoke about how unprofessional and disrespectful that was I was just met with "the concerns were brought to me while I was on vacation. But good luck" so what I got was that people had a 2 week period where there were concerns on my performance and no one thought to try and talk to me about improvement or where I was lacking I just got let go ? Without notice? From ANYONE ?

I was going to keep my mouth shut but 2 weeks ago I heard someone come into the kitchen to let whoever cleans the bathroom know that one of the stalls and toilet was covered in human feces .

It's not clean there and don't think about applying . The only thing I'll give is that they had great pay but TERRIBLE...

Had a really negative experience today.

We show up a little before 5 for dinner (it was that or Arby's but decided to eat local) and get seated being told the waiter would be there in a few minutes. After 10 minutes we get our drinks from someone else and told the waiter would take our order in a few minutes. 20 more minutes go by and she finally shows up, apologizes, and takes our order. Then got our food about 15 minutes later (which normally is okay but with how long we've been at the place I was tempted to just walk out and go to Arbys). She completely forgot my husband ordered soup until he reminded her and after that she never stopped by again (he needed a drink refill). The person who did dishes ended up collecting our plates and we had to ask him for a to-go container. And then we waited for our ticket so we could pay and leave. And waited. After 10 more painful minutes of me with the to-go container in hand we noticed patrons just went right to the front and asked to pay there. Waited a few more minutes before me and my husband just followed their lead.

Total time: over 75 minutes.

Food was good but not at all worth how long we had to wait for it. It was clear they were understaffed and struggling to keep up and I feel bad for everyone else there who was in the same predicament that we were. Left with a full stomach after a very long and boring wait.

I guess if you go with friends and have a lot of catching up to do this wouldn't be too bad. For those just wanting to go, have food, and leave in a reasonable timeframe I would NOT recommend.

Update: went again today

Still slow, ordered ASAP and then waited 40 minutes for the food this time. Food was meh, pancakes tasted like straight up sugar. At the checkout they asked and my husband mentioned it was a "bit of a wait" and they went on and on about how they were understaffed and busy. We won't be back anytime soon. Lowering it...

We got to this restaurant at about 1:00 on a Friday, so a little after what you'd normally consider the big lunch rush time. The place was busy, but only a couple tables were not already eating. Once seated, it took nearly 20 minutes for someone to come take our drink order, and another 15 before the drinks came and we got to order our food. Additionally, there were several tables that were sitting unbussed, and very dirty. These remained unbussed the entire time we were there. There seemed to be only one waitress covering the restaurant, so this was not her fault; generally, that means the restaurant is severely understaffed, which they should look to resolve (preferably by offering an actually livable wage to bring interest).

I ordered the chicken cordon bleu special with fries, and a strawberry malt. I had expected this to be actual chicken cordon bleu, as that was how it was listed on their specials list. Instead, this was a cordon bleu sandwich; this wouldn't normally be a big deal, but the sandwich did not have any sort of sauce. It was just chicken, ham, and cheese. The taste was okay, but the sandwich was dry as a result of this.

The malt was also disappointing, as it seems like they put way too much malt powder in the drink. I couldn't taste the strawberry past the malt flavor, and there were even dry chunks of powder that came up through the straw.

My wife got a breakfast combo. Her biscuits and gravy were not good because the gravy was completely flavorless, just a thin fat. The hash browns and eggs were undercooked as well, which made them less tasty than they should have been.

TL;DR The food here was okay, but just okay. Lots of little disappointments mean that I wouldn't recommend...
