The Quarry is within a block of my home, yet I've never visited. Truthfully, I don't get out much these days - work is busy and I don't drink much these days. I was feeling like a gin and tonic tonight, so I decided to stop in.
The most notable thing about the space, besides the clean and new appearance, is its low lighting. There are a few small accent lights near the tops of fake pillars, what appears to be a haphazard cluster of three lights in one corner over a table, and suspended fixtures over the bar consisting of a double layer of metallic mesh surrounding their bulb. Every light in the space was either incandescent or stylized as such. Combined with whatever light came from the 10 large flat screen TVs, the space is decidedly comfortably lit.
Seating is split between the many high top tables with accompanying stools and that which is available at the not insubstantial granite bar. I enjoyed my seat at the bar - the stools were quite plush, a nice change from the plain metallic stools of so many other bars and restaurants. I'd come back just to find out what type of stools they were. Seriously, they kept my kiester comfortable.
Of all the libations available, I went with my gin and tonic I was craving. After finding out their well gin was Barton's (eh, no thanks) I went for Bombay Sapphire. The drink was well mixed, not harsh in the least. And it was only $6. Not bad. There's a variety of other spirits, beers, and other cocktails available, as well.
Besides the lighting, the ambiance was also well complimented by the general volume of the music. They were playing generic modern pop music (not my favorite, but I'm not complaining here - it is a bar) at an acceptable volume such that conversation at normal levels is possible. I don't know what it's like when the place is really hopping, but I liked it on this particular Monday night.
If I were inclined towards going out to bars more frequently, this would be a place I'd enjoy. The G&T was good, it wasn't too loud, and the lighting was well done. If you live close by, I'd recommend checking it out, especially if you like sports (lots of that on the TVs)....
Read moreLove this place most nights but as other reviews have stated, there is one girl that bartends and she is horrible. Doesn't greet people, has the worst attitude, and she rarely comes back to check if you need a drink she waits for you to ask for it and when you do ask for a drink she acts as if it is an inconvenience. And honestly, I could get over everything else if she was at least pleasant. We normally come in with a large group every week or two but will be taking our business elsewhere. As a business owner myself I know it only takes one bad employee to...
Read moreI had high hopes for this bar. My first visit went well. My second visit started that way as well, but then things changed. I've been sitting here for 30 minutes with an empty beer. Seven people here currently. Prior to that, I asked for a pizza. I guess I wasn't heard twice. It must be me. Finally got some attention. I'm not coming here again. Picture of empty...
