This was by far the worst Mexican food I've had in South Texas. The only good thing were the chips. The salsa, as you can see, was a can of tomatoes blended with a tiny amount of a pepper. We asked for queso for our chips and it was HORRIBLE. As you can see in the picture it is the cheapest Velveeta knock-off found, mixed with canned chili. That is NOT queso. The chili gravy on the cheese enchilada had absolutely no taste and it was flat because I couldn't find any cheese inside of it. My crispy taco was pretty much empty. The flour tortilla wrapped in foil was burnt. When the waitress brought our food we asked for a few more chips and she brought a whole basket, and that was the last time we saw her. When we got to the counter to pay our bill the ticket had 1x chips $1.50. I asked why that was there, she said, "first basket is complimentary, and each after that is a dollar fifty. NEVER heard of this but we at least could've been told at the time of asking for them, NOT when we got the ticket. I would go to Taco Bell before eating at this...
Read moreThis was one of the worst meals I've ever bought, unfortunately. My husband says that this used to be a great place too. But now the cheese is all velveeta, not cheddar. The salsa tastes like canned tomatoes, and nothing really tastes homemade. The nachos were definitely made in the microwave. Chile relleno was bland and had no sauce or anything inside except ground beef and a little dry cheese. It was very spongy and hard to swallow. The enchiladas were inedible. My daughter, who no matter how picky she can get, will always eat the rice, would not touch it after one bite. Tortillas and sweet tea were pretty good. My husband says his fajita quesadilla tortillas were nice and crispy, but there were only about 8 little chunks of meat inside. I was thoroughly disappointed and can understand why, even on a Sunday afternoon, the place was...
Read moreCame to El Castillo for breakfast for the first time, and my 4 year old enjoyed his potato and egg tacos very much. I ordered the huevos rancheros, and was very surprised that it came with neither potatoes, nor bacon. It was near the same price as other restaurants charge, without including those two sides. Ranchero sauce was good, and eggs well cooked. Not a fan of the beans. Our server was very nice, and checked in on us appropriately. The other server stood around a lot. If you have time to lean, you have time to clean. Perhaps she was just having an off day though. Restaurant was lovely inside, and bathroom...
