Chubby's Ice Cream — Restaurant in Plumstead Township

Ok here we go... so on my way home from work I decided to stop at Chubbys for my first visit of the season. Finally spring is here so what better way to celebrate such a nice day (4/2/15) than stopping to get some Chubbys ice cream for the family. My family and I have been very loyal customers since our first visit 4-5 years ago. Let me start by saying that this review has nothing to do with the quality or taste of the ice cream. In fact we think it's the best Ice cream around! That being said, here's the bad part. I walked into an empty store with 3 young girls chatting in the back. I decided to order 3 mediums as that is our normal order and a medium from Chubbys has always been a decent serving size. Unfortunately this time was different. After placing my order the very nice young lady that was serving me placed the cups on the counter. What I saw was appalling! I am not exaggerating in any way, there was literally 2 VERY small scoops in each cup not even reaching the top of the cup and in no way even coming close to filling the container. Remember, I have been a customer for years and am well aware of what we "normally" recieve in a medium size....this was no where even close! All 3 containers equalled less then a pint of ice cream! Bare in mind each medium cup costs almost 5 dollars. I then asked the young lady why there was so little ice cream in the containers, she responded "I'm sorry but we have to use very specific scoop sizes because the ice cream is expensive to make". I understand it's expensive and that's why it tastes so good! The quality is excellent but when I pay 15 dollars for 3 medium cups of ice cream I would expect and am used to receiving a decent and fair portion size. I should have just refused the order and taken my money elsewhere, but after a long drive I just wanted to get out of there so I could get home. I will never make that mistake again! My family will give Chubbys 1 more chance and if I am given what I received today, Chubbys can keep their Ice cream and I will take my money and my business elsewhere! Remember, I have been a very loyal customer for years now and I know and expect a certain serving size especially considering the prices but this was not even close! Maybe the girl was new and just made a mistake (that's what I'm hoping) but if this is Chubbys new policy they we are gone! I will never again return if this happens again and will be sure to share my story with the countless number of other family's that we know who also frequent Chubbys Ice cream! So please, if anyone who has any authority over there is reading this please for your customers sake and for the sake of your business please please please FIX IT! So that's all I really have to say, and honestly I don't like writing reviews in general let alone a bad review, but I really needed to get this of my chest. I was having a bad day and was thinking “ice cream makes everything better!”. This was the closest one to me at the time. Have never been here before. Yelp and google were giving conflicting times to when they closed so i called them and asked when they closed. They replied “how far away are you?” I said “7min”. They replied “we can stay open for 7 more min.” I was like “are you guys closed?” And they responded “we close now but we can stay open for 7 mire min”. I was like wow thats so kind. So i go. The staff was EXTREMELY nice. They did not look annoyed or miserable that i came after closing time. In fact they were the complete opposite. They were patient and even offered to let me try a flavor if i wanted! They were in an upbeat mood and you could tell it was genuine and not forced. I thanked them so much for staying open for me and explained to them i was having a rough day and it really meant a lot they stayed open for me. The employee kindly and nonchalantly said “no worries at all!” With a smile on her face. Best believe i gave a superb tip and i promised myself to leave a good review. Their ice cream was pretty good but that’s besides the point. What REALLY made my day was how they treated me. Humans showing kindness to other humans!
