Stepping into Devil's Acre Tavern is like taking a thrilling step back in time to the roaring '20s! Nestled in Plumsteadville, this gem of a restaurant pays a fantastic homage to its namesake—the notorious Devil's Acre on the Delaware Canal Towpath along the Delaware River. Known for its spirited (pun intended!) history during the Prohibition era, where it buzzed with illegal speakeasies and was a haven for the adventurous, this spot truly captures that rebel spirit! From the moment you walk in, the ambiance is utterly captivating. The artwork is a nod to the Prohibition days, with subtle hints of mischief and revelry that truly enrich the dining experience. It's not just about aesthetics; the food here is a serious affair. Each dish is bursting with flavor, perfectly cooked and presented with a flair that complements its historic theme. Service at Devil's Acre Tavern is just as impressive as its menu and decor. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and always ready with a recommendation to ensure your meal is memorable. It's clear they take pride in both the history and the food they serve, making every visitor feel like a local. Whether you're a Bucks County native or just passing through, make sure to stop at Devil's Acre Tavern. It's more than just a meal; it's a vibrant celebration of history, art, and community spirit wrapped up in a delightful culinary experience. A definite must-visit for anyone looking to spice up their dining routine!

It is extremely rare that I leave a restaurant, feeling angry, as if I’ve been taking advantage of. Our trip to Devils acre, however, left us feeling that way. I ordered fish and chips. As you can see in the picture, the fish, which looked. Like big fish sticks were only slightly larger than the lemon. They were overcooked and the interior was dry. It seems that they have been put back in the oil to heat it. i’ve had fish and chips in many places in the US and abroad, and this is, without a doubt, the worst iteration I have had. In fact, I had complained to the waitress. While I would have expected somebody to come out from the kitchen to understand this no one paid attention. My wife had a chicken schnitzel that was so overcooked. It was stringy and hard to cut. Again, someone must’ve been too busy to pay attention to the entrée. The spas were good and prepared adequately. Although this came as a “side“ with the meal when I saw the check, they charged us two dollars for gravy. If you’re into drinking, this might be a great place to go. If you’re in the market for a great me, I think there are better options. In fact, I know there are better options.

We had a great experience for our first visit to the Devil's Acre Tavern. We set a reservation on open table, which was not needed. This German influenced tavern has a good beer menu and an interesting selection of appetizers and entrees. Our excellent service was provided by Rhea. On her recommendation we tried the Kielbasa Dip - a completely new appetizer for us. Great smokey flavor and good texture on the grilled bread rounds. We also tried the softer then expected Pretzel Bites with Beer Cheese. For our entrees we had the Pork Schnitzel and the Braised Short Ribs. The short ribs were beyond amazing. A must try. The bacon jam on the top of the Schnitzel was a nice change from the traditional toppings. Dessert was a shared serving of Bananas Foster bread pudding topped with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce. Even if the meal had been substandard I would return just to eat that dessert again. Great experience and well worth checking out.

There's not many places to pick up some German grub, so this place came up as a topic of conversation at a family dinner. My wife and I hadn't heard of it, so we decided to give it a try for lunch. The drink menu is extensive, along with a wide selection of beers. We didn't have any alcohol, but wanted to make sure the wide selection got into my review. We did have an unsweetened iced tea, which was very flavorful and not at all watered down, which is important if this is your non-alcoholic drink of choice when going out.

As a connoisseur of French onion soup, I am incapable of passing it up when I see it on the menu. The "Three Onion Soup" with Crustini and Gruyere was a little on the pricey side for soup, but I've got no regrets after tasting it. This crock of soup might have been the best soup I've ever had, and certainly the best bowl of French onion that I've had. If you've got a bucket list, you should add this soup to it... because it's just that good.

I was going to order The Reuben, but since my significant other wanted to get that, I opted for The Short Rib Pastrami. The pastrami sandwich was excellent, and I ordered the steak fries as a side. The fries were seasoned and fried to perfection, and came with a little bowl of ketchup that I ignored, since it would be an injustice to dip those fries in there.

Now, I don't want to take away from the fact that The Short Rib Pastrami was terrific. However, I do very much regret not getting The Reuben. I had a bite of her's, and it was everything a Reuben should be. Next time I'm there, I'll be ordering that Reuben... and obviously a bowl of Three Onion Soup, as it would be insane to be there and not have that soup. The only thing that would change my mind is if somehow they worked Sauerbraten...
