So the website says open at 11am. I get there about 11:05. I walk in and was ignored for a good 10 minutes as the cooks were prepping. I can see them and kept saying hello, until finally one person looked up and nodded his head. But did not proceed to do anything. Again, I waited another 10 minutes. Another lady was there prepping and again I said "hello" are you open..she said yes we are wait. Finally another server came and said to wait 5 minutes as the buffet will start at 11:30. So 11:30 comes around and it is still not ready. By now, there is another customer waiting. At least he was seated immediately as soon as he walked in. Finally at 11:40am I went up front and asked if the buffet was ready. The guy said almost. Some items are still being prepared. At this after waiting 40 minutes I just went ahead and started. The food was at par with other Indian restaurants, maybe a little bit more salty than I would like. There was one chicken that almost looked like it had yogurt in it. That was not delightful. By the way non of the dishes were labeled. The goat briyani was not bad. Tomato chutney way good and so was the vada. Who knew my epic adventure was about to start as soon as I walked out of the restaurant. It was my day off and I had a bunch of errands to do. I told my son I would pick him up lunch before I got home, and then my tummy started to rumble. I started to get sweaty and stepped on that gas paddle like my life depends on it praying and swearing at the same time, hoping I do not get pulled over because I really needed to use the toilet! If anyone remembers the Ben Stiller scene after eating indian food from the movie Along Came Polly...well I was pretty damn close to reenacting that. And trust me, I have a pretty strong stomach. I hardly get food poisoning. I grew up eating street food, so my gut has been accommodating all sorts of bacteria. Usually, I give a restaurant a second chance and I'm pretty fair with my reviews. This I can't even sugar quote. I will never return to this place, and you may want to rethink as well, unless you want...
Read moreI ordered the lamb curry and got the goat curry instead. When I arrived, I was told it would be another 10-15 min. There were no orders at the front table when I entered, and the man who greeted me apologized for the delay. Okay, no problem. There were a couple vehicles out front and a couple more waiting in the lot, but they seemed to move pretty quickly.
What initially bothered me was that right before my time was up, an older gentleman driving a Ridgeline pulled up, went in, and retrieved an order that was larger than mine. He did it before the two vehicles that were waiting out front got their orders. When I entered the second time, there were three orders waiting, one of which the guy indicated was mine. He offered me more rice, presumably for the delay, but I declined.
Yes, the exchange is clearly noted on the packaging (see photo), but when I am being charged $$ and not given a heads up, I deduct stars. I had no reason to suspect anything, nor was there a reason for me to open the packages (most Chinese places assume the clear packaging is enough for you). Needless to say, when I returned to my airbnb outside of town, I was disappointed (the lamb is what people rave about). ?
I think it is important to support business during this pandemic, and frankly, I don't know anyone allergic to goat. I waited until today to post because this wasn't an easy decision for me. But there are people out there who suffer from serious food allergies, and tbh, I'm uncomfortable with a business of this nature precluding simple honesty to make a quick sale. The food was good, the person I met was nice and all else being equal, I might come back after a while. But if you decide to order, CHECK YOUR ORDER...
Read moreWe had the breakfast buffet there today. The food was delicious-- there is a good spread and the dishes are served hot, flavor is perfect. The dosa was crisp and hot, chutneys were delicious and sambar was hot and really good flavors. But the reason I am taking off 2 stars is the choice of the utensil in which they serve the buffet. Everything is single-use plastic which I understand is a choice because they don't have enough time between breakfast and lunch. HOWEVER, the plastic itself is a number 6, Styrofoam plastic plates and a number 6 plastic bowls. My biggest problem with this kind of plastic is that it is very rarely recyclable and also this type of plastic leaches chemicals when it comes in contact with heat so it should be avoided.
The brunch is popular here so obviously there are a lot of people using these hard to recycle plastic. Imagine how much is being produced just in one day! One styrofoam plate takes 500 years to decompose. You do the math! Plus when these plates are contaminated with food it is even more difficult to recycle it in any way because the material is so porous. I would really request and urge the owners to look into compostable options. There are a lot of good options available out there where you can still stick to a "use and throw" model but potentially decrease the environmental footprint by a significant margin.
I did not know how else to contact the Manager at the restaurant but really feel strongly about this, especially after I saw how popular the breakfast was. Again I will say this the food and the service are both remarkable. It will be really nice if the plastic footprint is reduced. Composting is a...
