Read moreNegative 5 stars. Brief, yet still a disaster of a visit based solely on some serious attitude problems. My wife and I decided to go there for Saturday night date night. I had called earlier and made reservations for a hibachi table. 4:30 (?) was the best we could get as they claimed to be so booked at later times...ok. So we get there at about 4:30, maybe a party of 5 at one table and a handful of people in the bar, that’s it. The hostess gets busy taking a routine call and asks the manager to seat us which didn’t go exactly smoothly but ok. He takes us though this largely empty restaurant with more than 10 empty hibachi tables to a table in the far corner and tries to seat us facing the corner. Feeling like toddlers in a timeout we asked to be moved to the other side facing the restaurant and ok, he did. A few minutes later this lady comes out and very rudely tries to, I guess “bust “ us for moving in our own which we didn’t, and that we have to move back in case other people show up. This is the usual hibachi set up with seating for 18 and we’re the only two. We ask why, thinking maybe they’re expecting a party of 16 or something, but no nothing that she can articulate other than we just have to. My wife asks for the manager who sat us (I’m already done at this point but silent) and he comes over with attitude too and addres us like, “what”. We tell him and he says ok but is defending the other lady and says she’s right. We just got up and left. Done. The most pointless display of what I don’t know. I’m very understanding and “get it” when seating or placement is an issue for wait staff and why but there was no excuse for this and no way we would’ve enjoyed this place now. So we leave their empty restaurant, with as I observed, a very short reservation list, not spending probably close to $200 on dinner and drinks like we planned. Guess they...
Read moreDear Kobe Management,
I’m writing to share feedback regarding my recent visit to your restaurant. This was our first time dining at Kobe, and we chose it to celebrate my son’s birthday. Unfortunately, our experience did not meet expectations.
We had a 7:00 PM reservation but were not seated until 7:30 PM. After placing our drink orders, the drinks arrived incorrectly. When our soups and salads were served, some of us were not provided with utensils, and I had to request forks from the staff.
On a positive note, our cook did a phenomenal job entertaining us at the table, and I tipped him directly in appreciation. The food was enjoyable, though I personally found it could use a bit more seasoning—just a matter of personal preference.
However, what followed was both confusing and upsetting. As we were leaving, the server and receptionist approached me outside the restaurant, in front of other guests, claiming I had not left a tip and insisting that I must do so. I was caught off guard and embarrassed by the public confrontation.
I pointed out the large sign on your building stating that a 16% gratuity is added to the bill, which is why I did not leave an additional tip. The server claimed the sign was incorrect and went on to say that if I didn’t tip her, her employer would deduct the cook’s tip from her paycheck. I explained that I had already tipped the cook directly. Despite this, she continued to demand a tip, and to avoid further conflict, I ultimately left a $55 tip.
I was shocked by the pressure and the manner in which this situation was handled. My understanding is that tipping is customary but not mandatory, and I’ve never experienced a restaurant demanding a tip in this way.
Due to this incident, I will not be returning to Kobe and will not recommend it to others. I also plan to report this experience to the Better...
