It hurts me to do this, because I have been a loyal customer of this restaurant for years. I have always boasted it over Kyoto and I have introduced dozens of new customers to this establishment. I have noticed the last few times I have gone, they seem to always forget ingredients. The person who takes my order takes it exactly and then the sushi chefs “forget” because it is “busy.” Example, not including the spicy sauce on my spicy salmon nagiri or not putting tobiko on the dragon roll when it clearly says it is included on the menu. After having this happen multiple times in a row, I was upset. I was even planning in my head on the trip over how I would emphasize my orders in hopes they wouldn’t forget. I ordered the spicy salmon and it didn’t have the sauce so I told the waitress. She was dismissive and said “I will just bring the sauce and you can dip it, it will be the same.” They usually just say sorry, take it to the chef and they just put the sauce on. That really annoyed me that she thought it was fine and when she came back I said “I don’t want to dip this, I want what I ordered. This is the 3rd time in a row this happened.” The waitress said “they just forget sometimes when it is busy.” We got there right at open and were the first to order and it was not busy. I told her they need to learn to not forget because their job is to make food to order. I almost walked out then because I had lost my appetite and thought it was handled poorly. When I pay such prices to get food, I expect to get what I ask for and not get excuses. As the waitress did not even offer anything to accommodate me for having this happen again and again, and didn’t even have a manager stop by to discuss, I decided this was my last time at Takara. I will not be returning and I will no longer advertise this...
Read moreSo I am really picky and to stupid for my own good. For the last 6 months my Mrs and our boy have gone out for a sushi date night every week and they usually come here, even though it's 40 minutes away. I don't like sushi and although she said there may be some stuff I'd like on the menu still, I kept saying no no you two just go. Those two rave about this place so I decided to last night. Unbelievable! I usually eat like a bird and am picky but I stuffed my face like a gluttonous trucker binge eating on a cold lonely Christmas night. Curry chicken, chicken wings, shrimp, sesame chicken, pot stickers, salt n pepper shrimp, garden salad, rice, and strawberry ice cream. I could not stop ordering. Sometimes I'd forget I had ordered something and it would pop out with perfect timing to change flavors for a second. The portions are spot on and you get to just keep going. The staff was very friendly and attentive. On top of everything else, the price is perfect! I'll be going back again and again and it makes sense now why they skip two other options to get there.
I understand now that this doesn't help people going for sushi so I asked them why they like this over the two much closer more expensive options, the mrs said, it's way better quality and it's even cheaper than the closer ones. Plus when it comes to sushi, you want it done well and served fresh,...
Read moreIf you're familiar with what really flavorful high quality sushi is this place may be a disappointment for you. It was all right, but really nothing special overall.
My biggest issue was that my spicy salmon temaki was extremely dry and the strangest temperature. It was like somebody had been holding it in the palm of their hands for a long while until it was warm.
I can't be certain, but I think the gyoza may have been pre-made and frozen. Not terrible, but not $30 a person either.
The mushroom tempura was slightly soggy on arrival, although it tasted pretty decent.
The sashimi at least seemed to have been handled and made safely as the texture and temperature were good.
The miso soup was a good temperature and flavor.
The Emperor roll was fine. Nothing special, but a decent basic roll.
The one thing we did really enjoy was the Out of Control roll. It was nice as far as deep fried rolls go.
I get that it is all you can eat, I just wish that for the price it had felt a little bit less like buffet quality and more like the dining experience it was set to be.
Also, our server made me sort of uncomfortable. She kept touching my 1-year-old and was constantly at the table trying to see if we wanted more stuff. I am all for an attentive server, but she was...
