5 Guys is one of the best places for burgers and fries you can go to. The food is made fresh to order, no microwaves, convection ovens, or heat lamps. The restaurant is very clean and tidy and the staff are very friendly. They also have Fresca on tap which is hard to find in any stores these days.
The burgers are big and juicy and delicious, however if you order the basic toppings (pickle, onion, lettuce, tomato) they never seem to stack very well, let alone ordering additional toppings like jalapeños. It would be nice if they could present a more neat burger (you're probably going to need a napkin, btw) but the flavor makes up for it.
The fries are absolutely excellent, both regular and cajun. They really give you a lot, it's their signature to not only fill the container with fries but to dump a lot more in the bag as well, so you can get away with ordering a size smaller than you would other places. They are also generous with the fry sauce. But the best part about the fries is the fact that they have a sign on the wall telling you where the potatoes for your fries are from, so you know you're getting real potato fries (with skin). Our fries came from Wilcox farms in Rexburg.
The one major downside is the price. For a burger, fries, and a drink you're looking at about $15/person. It's great food, but hard to feel good about if you're on a budget. If that price doesn't bother you then I would add half a star, with a half star reduction remaining for being sloppy with...
Read moreI am not a picky eater, but I can not understand the appeal to this place. I've only been there twice and both times the food looked and tasted (to me) like really awful concession stand food. And the price is not cheap considering how basic a burger it is. Not trying to be mean here, but I've enjoyed food at actual concession stands compared to this place. On my first visit I honestly thought I must've showed up at the worst possible time for a first visit. Like, maybe they only had one bag of hamburger buns left that got all squished and maybe their fryer was on the fritz and that's why the fries were ridiculously greasy and limp. Nope. The second time, I experienced the same thing. Folks, I expect wilted lettuce and wilted tomato from a concession stand that's not air conditioned. It comes with the territory. But this place is actually indoors, so why are the ingredients not fresh? And I LOVE french fries but... Never mind. I dislike leaving a negative review, but it is an honest one. I have no interest in going back. There are far too many other better options (for me) in Pocatello/Chubbuck
For those of you that love this place - I'm happy for you. I am definitely not...
Read moreI'm sorry, I just don't get the hype.
Pros: the food was cooked to order and was definitely fresh. Despite being cooked right after ordering, it didn't take long to have our food. The floors were clean and the atmosphere good. The portion size on the fries was generous.
Cons: 7.95 for a two-patty burger? $4 for fries? The burger was astonishingly ordinary. It didn't taste seasoned at all beyond a tiny bit of salt and pepper. It was very meaty but devoid of any other bit of flavor. The cheese was hot and melted, but also pretty lackluster. It tasted like classic American Cheese you can buy at Walmart. The onions weren't even very good somehow. I just don't get how you can justify paying $8 for the most plain burger of all time.
The cajun fries were good for the first bite or two, but then it was just like eating a box of solidified Old Bay seasoning. They were also extremely greasy (pics included, one soon after getting our order and another an hour after letting our extra fries sit). I'm not sure if this is a problem with this spot in particular or the whole chain, but I'm not planning on going to any Five Guys...
