Anthony’s Pompano on Federal. Worst Anthony’s experience ever! Long time customers and we will never go back to this location. The waitress was super sweet. However, the pizza was burnt and greasy with barely any cheese which we told the waitress just because it’s usually so fresh and amazing. The GM Manuel Lopez was also the chef… he came over to the table and didn’t introduce himself so we didn’t know who he was. He asked us if everything was OK and I said usually it’s amazing. We love this place and I don’t ever complain about food but today it’s not that great. It’s very overdone. There’s no cheese and it tastes funny. He said well it looks like you ate it and I said yes we ate a little bit of it. My kids ate it because they were hungry and we waited quite some time to get our food when there was barely any crowd. I had to order chicken wings because the pizza was not great. He was not apologetic instead he tried to overexplain why there was no cheese on some of the pieces but he could see cheese on it.. Even though we showed him in and the waitress, he then had nothing else to say accept well did you have to send it back to be remade and I said no we didn’t because we were hungry. He said ok and just walked away from the table. Then we got the chicken wings, which are also a favorite of ours and they were completely overdone and burnt. We could only eat four out of the 10 wings because they were burnt. The flatbread was hard and could barely chew through it. I let the waitress know that I was disappointed because we always go there and it’s always delicious. We got the bill and nothing had been compensated even though the manager knew we had a bad experience. My mom went to speak to him after dinner and he was extremely disrespectful, rude, questioning what we were saying about the food, even though we showed it to the waitress, he tried to make her feel like we were lying and trying to get free food, which was not the case. We were upset because not only was the general manager the chef, but he had zero empathy for the fact that everything was burnt and we were unsatisfied. There were only two tables in the restaurant when we got there so the time that we waited, and the quality of the food was just not acceptable. There was also no toilet paper in any of the stalls in the bathroom and it was dirty. Someone like him should not be managing a restaurant let alone cooking the food. If I were the manager and had customers that were very nice and just letting us know they had a bad experience I would at least be apologetic. Give them a little bit of sympathy and maybe take a little bit off of the bill, but he completely disregarded us and was a total jerk. I would go to any other Anthony’s, but that location, especially if he’s...
Read moreJust ok. I was really looking forward to visiting Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza on this recent trip back to Pompano. My family has always loved this pie and this location. However, this last time, the carry out was just OK. I don't know if the restaurant chain has been sold or this location has changed something, but the pizza was unremarkable. In particular, what was different than my remembrance of Anthony's was that the crust was tough and chewy. If my memory serves me correctly, that 900 degree oven used to make the pizza crust super crisp and with a good amount of char. In fact, the last time I had Anthony's from this location, I preferred it to some old school pizza joints in New Haven, CT - the birthplace of coal fired pizza. The flavor of the sauce, cheese and pepperoni were great. The flavors didn't change, but so much changes if that that crust isn't crispy or if it doesn't have the right amount of char. The curbside service was fantastic as always. I'm willing to chalk this up to something that's not the norm for this place and I'm definitely willing to give the location another try. Just on the off chance that the experience of the crust is the same, I'm going to have to write this place off for future trips because that crust is what coal fired pizza...

I walked into Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza expecting a slice of heaven. Instead, I got something that looked like it barely survived a volcanic eruption. 🌋🪦
The crust? So blackened and crispy, I had to check if it came with a fire extinguisher. Even my teeth were like, “nah, bro, we’re on a break.” 🦷💥
The wings? Apparently “coal fired” is code for “sacrificed to the gods of overcooked poultry.” I didn’t know chicken could be dry and greasy at the same time. 🐔💀🛢️
Service? Let’s just say I made more eye contact with the pizza oven than our server. 🧍♂️👋 (Shoutout to the host who stared at me like I walked in wearing a clown wig — maybe I did, emotionally.)
And the vibe? A mix between “sports bar trying to be classy” and “we gave up halfway through decorating.” I felt like I was eating in a waiting room at a burnt toast convention. 🪑🔥
Highlights of my visit: Got asked if I wanted my pizza “well done.” I thought they were joking. They weren’t. Heard a toddler say, “Mommy, is it supposed to be this black?” 🧒🖤 Left with 2 to-go boxes: one for leftovers, one for my regrets.
Would I recommend Anthony’s? Only if you’ve recently lost your sense of taste or enjoy chewing on...
