Upon arrival, the restaurant was empty....we were the ONLY ones there, which made me slightly uncomfortable, but it was my Dear Friend's Birthday and she insisted she wanted Peruvian Food. There was ONE employee, who greeted us kindly and I did notice the dining room was very clean which made me immediately feel more relaxed. Their wine selection was extremely limited...I chose a peruvian white which was quite satisfying and my friends enjoyed their merlot. The menu was extensive...surprising for such a small and apparently not very busy restaurant.
Birthday girl chose a chicken dish and her son ordered the duck, which the menu stated was 'baked and tender' and I, at the suggestion of our waiter, ordered the Lomo Saltedo, which was skirt steak with veggies and rice. I won the lottery this night, because mine, although a little salty was delicious and I couldn't stop eating it. The meat was very tasty, the veggies were so good and it had fresh tomatoes that were cooked perfectly that when you got one in a bite, refreshed your palate..the rice was excellently cooked and fluffy and the whole dish was beautiful to look at. It was a surprise as I began eating to discover a bed of french fries under the meat? I specifically told our server several times we do NOT want anything fried...I simply pushed them to the side of the plate and was sad that they had absorbed most of the delicious juice of the dish, which should have been mine for the enjoying! Sadly my friends weren't so lucky....the duck upon arrival, looked like road kill...it was grey and horribly unappetizing...the chicken looked slightly better and both were on a bed of a very unappealing rice, which had the color of dirty mop water. My dear friend was hesitant to even dig in and upon doing so, found it below mediocre...I felt responsible since I talked him into the duck promising him we could 'share' but I took one small taste and could not take another. Being a gentleman, he allowed me to enjoy my tasty dish without sharing and forced his duck down. Birthday girl asked to have her dished removed from in front of her after eating only half.
Dessert wasn't much better...Ice cream made with Lucama, an exotic fruit which had no taste...we kept tasting it waiting for the taste to appear...after my third bite, I was hit with a caramel taste; which was confusing as I was looking to taste fruit! I had the vanilla flan...Extremely disappointing..bland and mushy....looked like it had been in the refrigerator a while...covered in caramel and sprinkled with cinnamon, which were better than the flan itself.
Overall, I can see why the restaurant was empty and although my dish was good, (I'd give it an 7.5), we would not return. Sorry Malulo's...you just didn't deliver the...
Read moreDined here 7 years ago and it was AMAZING. I liked it so much I vowed to return the next time we vacationed here. I was so excited to get back here and eat again as it was so delicious. When we arrived it looked dumpy and like it needed an update/renovation. There was even a ceiling fan on the table as you fist walked in getting repaired/replaced with mess all around it. It felt weird and like we should turn around and go somewhere else but I foolishly had faith! The area of Pompano has been upgraded significantly in the past 7 years but this restaurant has not kept up with the times in terms of ambiance. The seafood we ordered was great but the meat was just ok. Service was fine but the waitress forgot to place my daughters’ order. When she brought only 3 dishes to our table she made a “diet” comment towards my daughter (she’s 12) which was innocent but rude at the same time. We tried to politely bring her attention to it but it got lost in translation and miscommunication. In the end they were only mildly apologetic for not serving her. They were willing to put the order in once we worked out the error but by then I was so annoyed (and the rest of us had completely finished our dinners) that we got the heck out of there and ended up taking her to eat somewhere else afterwards. I would have thought that they would at least comp something from our order in apology or offer a small dessert to make up for their mistake; but no, nothing but a half hearted “sorry”. After waiting 7 years to come back here I was more than disappointed. We will never return. Sorry Malulos, you’ve lost a...
Read moreIt was the worst experience ever! I would of gave them zero stars if I could. The customer service was the worst! When I picked up my order, the 2 bags ripped opened and all the food containers fell to the floor. The owners and workers did not attempt to help me pick up the food and when I politely asked for replacement bags, they initially refused speaking in their language in an upsetting tone towards me and among themselves and finally said to me in English, “No, I should of been more careful with handling the bags!” To top it off, I spent $115 in total and it was all a waste. Every member of my family had a complaint, either the food was salty or it was too fresh! As for me, I honestly thought, it wasn’t the worst and it definitely wasn’t the best, it was just okay. In any case, NEVER AGAIN! I will not recommend this restaurant to anyone because of the HORRIBLE DISGUSTING customer service, along with the taste of the food!!! I encourage you all to save your money and support another restaurant that...
