The 3 rating is mainly based on how we felt about our food. We love barbecue and were excited to see this place had good ratings... but we were very disappointed. More on that below.
Our server was very good up to the point where our food was delivered. She never did come back to ask if the food was okay. We certainly could have flagged her down, but I think it's important for a server to check in to ensure the customer has everything they need and that there are no issues with the order.
We ordered pulled pork, ribs and chicken wings with a side of green beans, apple slices in cinnamon, mac and cheese and the corn nuggets.
The good- The corn nuggets were very tasty. They were deep fried, which I don't typically like, but a few reviews mentioned them so I took a chance. They are coated in honey sauce and they actually are very tasty and have actual kernels of corn in them. Our server recommended the mac and cheese and it was indeed very good. My husband's apple slices were also a win.
The bad- My pulled pork was incredibly hot and dried out. I really suspect that the pork was cooked much earlier on if not a day earlier and then microwaved. I make it myself and I've never made it this dry. My husband's spare ribs were mostly dried out also, although he said one of them was moist and he liked it. However, his smoked chicken wings were also dried out, although they did have a good flavor.
I truly get the feeling that nothing was cooked fresh, but was microwaved or deep fried on demand. At a genuine barbecue restaurant, you should smell food smoking as you approach, but that was not the case here. Also, my husband said his green beans were canned, so if you don't like canned green beans, go with a different option!
This was a free comedy night going on. That's the reason we came - my husband found the writeup about it on Eventbrite. We were excited about it since we are on a tight budget and it was nice to be able to have free entertainment. What we didn't realize was that it was starting an hour later than what was advertised (said 7, but started at 8). Plus, we also did not realize that there would be about a dozen comedians testing out their new jokes to see if they were good or not. Most were not, but there was a sparse turnout / crowd so it was a little awkward because we are not mean people and we didn't want these poor fellas hanging out to dry up there. So, we felt compelled to laugh and be very attentive even when we didn't really think things were all that funny or engaging. Sorry for the criticism, but it's just something that you might want to be aware of if you are...
Read moreToday I’m going to review 2 Q joints simultaneously because they were equally heinous. When you venture to bestow your hard earned money and time upon any type of business establishment, you are entrusting said business.... TRUST given should be earned and cherished, because mishandling it and attempting to regain it becomes a long fought, uphill battle. Spanx calls its food BBQ, yet the ribs were more reminiscent of KFC(fried) followed by a light grilling to heighten the illusion of proper SMOKED bbq. The brisket is similar to what would occur if you were in a rush to feed intruding in-laws frozen meat... step one, boil the brisket to immediately thaw and decimate any possibility of it being flavorful. Step two, bake/broil it in a futile endeavor to salvage what very little dexterity and texture remains. Step three, add an unusual amount of salt to further mask the charade. I’ve eaten BBQ in Texas and North Carolina, the good folks of both states take PRIDE in producing amazing SMOKED Q and consider it their duty to ensure their Q is beyond reproach. South Florida residents and “BBQ” business owners, please stop calling your grilled, fried, baked, broiled, boiled dog food... AUTHENTIC long, slow smoked BBQ. Most importantly, consistency, I don’t care if you once created true Q. Unless you’re pursuing daily perfection and AUTHENTIC SMOKED BBQ with every order, please call yourself a “cooked meat” place for the sake of accuracy...
Read moreThe food was ok... Nothing special and certainly not worth the $$$. We ordered online and our total was $33 i specifically made sure to order the large fries. When we got there our food was ready and fries were definitely not large. So I pointed that out to her and she said well you were charged the $3.99 I said oh? Ok... Confused. But she asked if we wanted another order and I said yes, please, but then I double checked my receipt online and it was indeed a large fry I ordered and was charged for I pointed it out to her and she said ok. So I thought then that she wouldn't charge me for the small fries. We finished our meal and got up and started getting in our car when she chased us down the parking lot saying um you have to pay for the small fries i said but I ordered large fries and didn't get them so why am I being charged for the extra fries? And she said in her tablet it does show I ordered large fries but the total wasn't calculated correctly so I actually wasn't charged for them. I said ok I just want to make sure I am not being double charged and asked for a receipt which she didn't give me because she said she couldn't print. The whole thing just left me with a very unpleasant feeling. It was their machine's error and they should have just let me have the stupid extra fries but no and they charged me $ 10 for fries and lost a customer. Oh and I was charged the full $33 after all. Just checked my credit...
