Asian 1 — Restaurant in Pompton Lakes

When we came up here several years ago their food was excellent, staff got to know us since we ordered weekly, was a great place. Now it seems quality and service has gone down severely. Past few times we've ordered we've had to wait at least an hour, we're only a couple of blocks away and we call during slow hours. Call for food and the person answering the phone asks for phone number six times (and keeps getting it wrong) and then doesn't know half of the stuff we're trying to order. It's off your menu, how do you not know what food you offer?

[Edit] Oh and apparently pineapple chicken and chicken with mixed vegetable are the same thing. The girl who took the order screwed up. The rest of my order seems to be okay. She repeated my order three times and said pineapple chicken. I don't mind chicken with mixed vegetable but I was really looking forward to my pineapple chicken, hoping it was better than the last time I had it (it was kind of dry).

With Chinese places a dime a dozen, it's not hard to find another. If you're not going to provide great service, it's easy enough to take my business elsewhere. Initially I would've given five stars, but in light of everything going on the past few times, I have to revise my star rating. And I've docked another star for not getting my order right despite supposedly having my order written correctly. I'll be taking my business elsewhere in the future.

[Update: 21 Jan 2018] Decided to try them again, thinking that maybe last time was just a fluke. Nope. Ordered chicken with curry sauce and shrimp chow mien. Got chicken with broccoli and chicken chow mien instead. Since this was the second time in a row our order was wrong, this is the last time we will be ordering from here. Most places have things they make well and things they don't make so well. This place is no exception.

One thing I love about Hong Kong Taste is the beef they use. Very tender, not super rubbery like most places. I won't order beef and broccoli anywhere else. Also, their boneless spare ribs are excellent as well.

On the other hand, their eggrolls and wantons aren't so great. And their veggies sometime need more time in the steamer. Not a very big deal tho.

Everything else they do kind of average. The pros I mentioned out weigh the cons. Which is why I give them 4/5 stars instead of a neutral 3.

The worst Chinese food ever. I ordered a lunch special, and ate the main part of it in the restaurant, and the soup later. The beef with veggies wasn't bad, but it was very oily, and the extra heat I'd requested hadn't arrived. It took several minutes to get some chili to add to it.

But that hot and sour soup - O M G! they apparently hadn't finished making it. There were huge, tough bamboo threads in it that made it practically inedible, and very little tofu. And there was no vinegar in it AT ALL. Thank goodness I had some at home and could resurrect this. Even then, several other ingredients were missing as well
