La Nueva Pastelería — Restaurant in Ponce

Saturday Brunch. Arrived around 11am and were promptly seated. Waitress was quite attentive. We ordered pancakes and tortilla, my wife the pancakes with seasonal fruit and acerola juice. While waiting, Tibor the young magician entertained us and was excellent!!! We were pleasantly surprised with the food quality - fresh, tasty with good presentation. Once we received our food, our waitress never attended us. Our juice never arrived. Once we finished our food, our waitress never attended us. Tibor cleared our dishes!!! We planned on ordering coffee and some of the delicious looking pastries on display, including a planned takeout box of pastries for the event we were headed to, but our waitress (or anyone) never returned, heck I think she must have gone on break or left as we never saw her again. No other server approached us so we got up, paid at the register, and left. My guess is we would have spent another $30 or so on coffee, etc. Very disappointing and surprising based on our initial experience, food quality, and magic show! I think we might return again since the food and magic (!) were so good, but we would have lower expectations on the service side unless...

I was on vacation at Ponce and decided to take my family here for breakfast since the ratings were really good. Although the staff was friendly, the food or experience didn't live up to the ratings. It was a task to order what we wanted. As we walked in, we realized the temperature was freezing inside owing to the air conditioning. There were AC vents all over the tiny little seating area and i noticed 2 other couples (just like us) moving around to other tables just because of the cold air blowing directly onto them.

I ordered bacon, scrambled eggs and toast. My bacon was too crunchy and extremely salty. My wife ordered an omlette with veggies but just got a plain omlette instead with nothing in it. Once I got this to their attention, they took the plate into the kitchen and just put some sautéed onions and mushrooms in it and brought the same omlette back.

I enjoyed my fresh iced coffee and my son liked his waffles, other than that i really didn't like the place or experience.. While the rest of my trip to Ponce was...

I read the review that said to avoid the pancakes and I found out why. They aren't terrible, but they need more leavening and they need to try to not overcook them. I like mine with butter and asked for a little. I was brought several ounces of melted butter in a dish. Maybe that's the only way they have it. I find a breakfast request for butter often seems to be like asking for moon rock. It's not common I suppose.

The eggs were good and the juice might be fresh squeezed, or at least a good brand of not from concentrate. The price is fair and I had no trouble with the wait staff who seemed very attentive.
