Rita's Italian Ice & Frozen Custard — Restaurant in Pooler

Fair warning, the parking here is cramped and limited. This is the perfect place to go for a cool-down after getting sunburned at the beach😎😂 if you don't know what Frozen Custard is, it's kind of like soft serve ice cream except thicker and way smoother🍦💚🤍♥️🍦Whenever I visit a Rita's, I always order their gelati, which is basically layers of frozen custard and italian ice. You can choose up to 2 different flavors of Italian ice to layer up; which I always end up choosing cherry and mango 🍒🥭 good stuff. *Side note: if you choose to chill in their outdoor seating area, make sure you're not sitting on top of a fire ant hill, those suckers...

On a hot day, and we have had plenty lately, any frozen treat is good! I will say, the custard here is very tasty but it's fairly pricey for what you get and the staff is your typical ice cream stand staff of mid aged teens who barely make eye contact and are almost non cummicative with customers. This is not a knock on them, it's just their age, but man...a smile and thanks for coming in wouldn't hurt either.... I threw a 5 dollar bill in for a tip on an order that was 11 bucks, at least look like you appreciated that. I usually come here every Thursday and do work while my daughter is at dance practice next door. The sign on the door, and hours posted online, say they are open until 8PM. However, tonight, at 7:15, I was informed that the dining room would be closing in 5 minutes.

I've been coming here every week at the same time, 6:30 - 7:25, and have never been asked to leave so I'm not sure why tonight was special?

I do love their ice and custard but I guess I'll have to wait until their "summer hours" start...
