Try Sushi King instead. Me and my friend walked in at 2:38pm. Lunch is listed until 3pm. The male host was very nice and grabbed two lunch menus. He started walking us to our seat and the lady behind the register says to him: we are closing up lunch and if we used the lunch menu we could order 1 time off of the all you can eat lunch menu and to grab two dinner menus. I gave him the dinner menus back and said it is only 2:40p now so we ordered everything we wanted right then. I was turned off at this point and should have left. We ordered 5 sushi rolls, shrimp yakisoba, fried rice, seaweed salad, miso soup, shrimp shumai, and crab rangoon. These were very small portions which was fine. I am assuming for lunch. When it was time to pay, the lady taking the payment said we have to pay an extra $6 because we didn’t eat ALL of the food. I said: we have to eat every bite? She said yes. We ate almost everything and there was no excessive waste. I fell like she did this because she wanted us to order off of the dinner menu when it was lunch hours. Me and my friend split the $6 and didn’t leave a tip. This is a terrible business practice and I’m sure they don’t do this to everyone. I could understand ordering a bunch of food and not eating it but to leave a few pieces of sushi and be charged extra for it is insane. Needless to say I will never eat here again. The whole experience made my stomach turn and ruined our lunch.

Totally average quality of sushi. No real complaints. Not authentic, but I wasn't expecting that anyway. Very American-ized rolls: loaded with sugar, sauce, crunch, spice, you name it. But Spicy Girl was our favorite roll- you wouldn't think the lemon would be so good on sushi, but it was! Thought it was a little funny to see where they cut the chicken satay to make sure it was cooked- the chicken was very tasty, just seemed kinda amateur. Unimpressed with the cheap servings/dressing of their sashimi. Every "piece" of sashimi is an actual piece of fish (that would fit atop a piece sushi) cut into 2 or 4 pieces. So, really you're getting 1 piece of fish, but they make it look like 4. Also pretty distasteful to plate a "tuna tartare" where 80% of the dish is cucumbers, with 3 thin slices of tuna on top. Finally, server seemed overworked; And acted like she absolutely hated her job, which is concerning and sad. Entirely Chinese staff last time we were there, too (no Japanese staff in a Japanese restaurant??). We probably won't be coming back. Seeing all the cut corners/cheaping out just made it feel not quite worth it.

All-you-can-eat sushi at a reasonable price. Paid about $25/person before tip and taxes, but thats not the important part. The servers were friendly, and great conversationalists. One of them talked with my roommate and I about music after they were jamming out and getting into the groove. The other was a bit on the quieter side but was quick to respond to empty drinks/plates. There were even a few jokes here and there when the servers had a few moments. As for the food: the fried calimari was phenomenal! Ive had a lot of calimaro, but that was the first time Ive had an order that came out exactly right. The breading was even seasoned, which you almost never see. The sushi was pretty standard fare for the most part, but the quality for the price is pretty hard to beat! If you're passing through Newport News I'd highly recommend going for the All-you-can-eat menu here. There's also an Al carte option available for those wanting something on the go.

I used to love this place pre-covid. The overall quality seems to have gone down. While the raw sushi is fine as any raw fish should be, many of the rolls and other options are subpar.

The spicy salmon and tuna rolls are disgusting to name a few. The chicken curry was terrible and had a foul odor that made me wonder why the waitress was comfortable serving that.

Speaking of waitresses, many have come and gone since I've been dining there over the years, but they have this particular waitress (unfortunately don't have a name) that will give you a hard time for a higher tip. While I didn't tip a disrespectful amount, the service was subpar and therefore I didn't feel like it deserved 20%. As my party prepares to leave, she comes up to me telling me I need to tip higher. I refuse and she asks me "are you sure?" before storming off.

Safe to say, I kept an eye on my account since there's a previous review here by a user by the name of "Tom Cruise" that had the same experience, but he was charged more money than he originally tipped which is unacceptable. I'm not sure if it's one or more waitresses that are doing this, but with the combination of this issue, the food and service quality going down, I believe that justifies my rating to this once beloved restaurant I used to take all of my friends to.

I will no longer be dining at this establishment and I encourage others...

Used to be our favorite spot, now completely declined We were regulars at this restaurant, the food was really good. Service was hit or miss but we were willing to overlook that because we enjoyed the food. Sashimi was very generous and fresh. Rolls were great. Come Covid it has completely changed. We received awful service there. The rolls were mostly rice and sashimi was so tiny you couldn’t even tell what you’re eating. Problems with our order. Server trying to make us pay for small toddler. Just bad. We gave it another chance recently. Sadly it hasn’t improved. You can really tell they’re trying save every penny. They’ve really cut back the amount of seafood they give you to the point that it defeats the purpose of the meal. The rolls are noticeably worse than they ever were being mainly rice. Sashimi is just as tiny and this time not fresh. Service was not great, mixing up our order. We didn’t get all the things ordered and receive 2 identical rolls when we ordered 2 different ones. We just decided it’s not worth it at this point. So many great sushi restaurants in the area, just pay a little more and eat some good sushi with...
