Plaza Azteca — Restaurant in Virginia

Food was just "okay." Perfectly fine for folks who have never had REAL Mexican food or who simply like/prefer the "Americanized" version of it.

Prices were slightly higher than what one would expect to pay for "okay" food.

Service was perfunctory and a little slow. In all fairness, our visit was during the height of the typical "lunch rush" on a Friday, and we were a party of 8 or 9, so the slow service was not necessarily the server's fault. It coulda been, but.... That said, the server only checked on on our table twice throughout our visit, so things like beverage refills, the desire to perhaps order desserts, etc., was irritatingly difficult to satisfy because the server didn't pay attention to such details and didn't come around often enough for us to ASK. Furthermore, flagging down other servers to ask for refills / utensils / napkins, etc., proved equally frustrating since most of these requests went unfulfilled, too (and if the staff was slammed, then where were the supervisors / managers to help out??).

Overall, I'd describe our experience as underwhelming...

I have been frequently visiting this restaurant over this summer. Each visit was a new bad experience. Whether is be a roach on the wall to which the staff really made no fuss over, to the staff ( particularly one young male server) who just happened to be hands down, the worst. We have had this server on multiple occasions. On our last visit, he greeted us by mumbling his words under his breath, we replied bk and before we could reply bk with our full drink/appetizer order the server had turned his back to us and was walking away. Upon his return with drinks and the cheese dip, which we were happy to see this time (bc he's forgotten it before) , we noticed we were missing something very important....the CHIPS!! SO he scurried off for that and brought it back and was never seen again. Others brought our food, he never refilled our drinks or even checked back on us to see how we were doing. He can generally be found up by the expo window or register scrolling thru his phone! We had to go up and seek out our check. We complained to further staff with no avail. So very...

My boyfriend and I went out for date night on Saturday Jan 6th. We place our orders and our waiter does not write anything down and it's starting to die down, big groups are leaving. So we get out food and it's the wrong thing, I had ordered the La flaka chopped salad with chicken and it came with shrimp. My boyfriend ordered California fish tacos with rice and beans instead of the rice and crema salad and it just came with crema salad. The waiter argued with us but took our food back and got the correct items. After we got our corrected food our waiter disappeared, we look at the table next across from us and he's sitting there taking shots of tequila with a friend (not assuming coworker since no plaza azteca shirt was on). My boyfriend gets up to go the restroom and sees another table full of employees (one of which looked like the manager) also drinking alcohol and ignoring their tables. We get our check and my meal was charged for the shrimp not the chicken and my boyfriend's meal had an upcharge of rice and beans when the meal comes with rice. We will not...
