Haven't ordered from the truck in a while but the family was in the mood for great Mexican food! My wife ordered the Street Tacos Combo with Pork. My son and I went for our old stand-by the Carne Asada plate. My wife loved the tacos, saying they were very flavorful. The Carne Asada plate was really good and I think bargain-priiced for what you get: 8 oz skirt steak, lots of rice and beans, a salad, guacamole, and the requisite grilled green onions and jalapeño pepper (though from the size and heat it seemed more like a serrano chile which was still fine with me!) It was a lot of food. I had enough guac to share with my wife since her order didn't come with it.
I'm giving the food and service 5 stars but with a slight asterisk*: I prefer the skirt steak grilled over charcoal and not fried on a griddle, but the food truck has always cooked it this way. But to offset that, the seasoning of the steak and all the food was on point. And the steak was sliced into several very tender pieces which made it far easier to load up the corn tortillas with. Right now, all the Mexican restaurant menus I've read list Carne Asada way over $20. As I said, this dish is bargain-priced and really, really good.
The food we brought home shows why this truck continues to be successful after so many years. The food truck is kinda like having your mom and dad living in town. You may not visit them that much but it's a comfort to know...
Read moreWe were really craving some Mexican food after an afternoon of running errands in the area, so we stopped-by this little truck, which seemed to have an incredibly faithful following. While the wait was reasonable, the food was a very mixed experience. My husband enjoyed his tacos, but the quesadilla I ordered was incredibly unappetizing. Since I can sometimes have unrealistic expectations about food, I had my husband try the quesadilla, and he agreed that it was not good. We had paid over $10 for the quesadilla, so I decided to approach the truck to communicate my dissatisfaction, and the reaction I received was condescending and rude. If there had been any attempt to make the situation right, this review might have gone differently, but the indifferent customer service ensures we will not be back.
Pro-Tip: If you decide to eat here, definitely skip the quesadilla. Mine ended-up in...
Read moreNever been here before but i am a big fan of Mexican Food Trucks. Hands down, Taqueria El Rey is the best i have ever tasted. I ordered the carne asada street tacos with avocado. There were three tacos and each one had a generous slice of perfectly ripe avocado. The plate was garnished with several items making it pretty fancy for street food. We also ordered the chicken quesadilla. It was very delicious. Lots of chicken and not overly cheesy. Nicely grilled with crema on the side. Although this place is quite far from my home, I'm going to find a way to stop by when i'm in the neighborhood. They are open from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. 6 days a week. Closed on Sundays. Quite a large menu. They have tongue and tripe and fish tacos as well. This is a permanent location along...
