I was super excited to try this Cuban bakery, not solely per recommendation but also based off of the raving reviews comparing it to down south cuban food. I am originally from up north so I have definitely tried delicious cuban food that can and cannot compare to down south cuban food. I was disappointed... I did not dine in and instead did take out. Ordered the following: Cuban sandwich Croqueta preparada (sandwich) Empanada carne (beef) and chicken Croqueta de Jamon (ham croquette) Pastel de carne (beef patty) Papa rellena (potato ball stuffed with ground beef, usually in a tomato based sauce) Tuna sandwich Cafe con leche one dark and one light.
The sizes are superb, they are massive which is great if you would like to share. Meats and bread for the sandwiches tasted fresh. Flavor was good but def not the best I've had, even in the Treasure Coast area. It was a bit too salty. The croqueta sandwich was basic, as the croquetas themselves were way too pasty, no flavor and frankly, tasted old, no crisp. Same for the croqueta that was bought alone. The papa rellena fell apart but was still crispy on outside and soft on inside, however the flavor was lacking. Again, it was salty and a bit too tangy. The beef empanada was soggy, greasy and overall tasted old and just like fatty meat, no flavor. The chicken empanada I would have to say was the only highlight of the day. Though the dough matched the beef one, the inside was delicious. The coffees were good but I'm sad to say there is a local supermarket, that makes them better. I asked for one sugar and it tasted super sweet, on the other I asked for two sugars and it was not drinkable... Overall the customer service was amazing and the staff/owners were super courteous and helpful. I'm hoping this was just a bad day and not the usual, based on...
Read moreListen when I say that I am an American of Cuban descendant with deep roots to my Cuban culture and it is very hard for me to recommend a Cuban restaurant even in Miami, unless it meets my strict standards, so that should tell you how picky I am about my Cuban food. I moved up to the Port Saint Lucie area 6 months ago and have not found a decent Cuban restaurant until I walked into Lily’s Market Cafe a classic hole in the wall right next to a Mexican restaurant. I wasn’t expecting much until I saw the menu and to my surprise had a large variety of Cuban Pizzas and various Cuban staple dishes seen in every Cuban restaurant. We ordered our food. I ordered the Pollo Al La Plancha with black beans and rice, and my wife who is 150% Cuban born and raised ordered what she would always describe as the best pizza she has ever eaten in her life was a Cuban pizza made in Havana ( which in my mind I would think, better than a New York or Chicago Pizza), the famous pizza Napolitana which she has eaten in other Cuban restaurants in South Florida but was never impressed compared to the pizza in Havana. We got our food and immediately I could smell the spices and aroma of my mother’s kitchen and my food was perfectly cooked and tasted absolutely incredible. I also took a bite of my wife’s pizza and now I can appreciate the taste of what she would always describe as the best pizza ever, and my wife said that this is the closest she has ever come to eating a pizza like the one she used to eat in Havana. Lily’s Market Cafeteria is a treasure of Cuban food in the Treasure Coast. We highly recommend...
Read moreI decided to try Lily's because of some good reviews I saw. After noticing the small menu selection on door dash I went with the Cuban sandwich and corn tamales. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with a cold soggy sandwich that was not tasty. The cheese didn't appear to be swiss and butter was so thick coated in the sandwich I couldn't taste the meat. Also tamales were substituted with fries because tamales out of stock at 3pm and I was charged for them without asking me. Not anything like the Cuban sandwich I get in the...
