As we were waiting outside some people in the line before us said let’s go elsewhere the hostess is rude.. and we should have listened. We love the portland food scene and were super excited to try this spot. they had a good waiting system whereby you could order a drink whilst waiting for your table and we didn’t have to wait too long. note they don’t have a cocktail menu - you just describe what you like which i personally loved! when we got seated is when stuff started to go bad. it took us around 15 mins to get any attention from a server by which time we were gasping for water! the service was incredibly slow. i eat out all over and we were totally ignored… multiple times. we had to ask our server for water, drinks refills and even our ordered food (that never seemed to appear..?!). We didn’t know if we would just have to give up as it was so slow and there was no communication around timings/ delays etc. After continual reminders over a long space of time we got all of our food - it was fine- charcuterie/ cheese board is very small but tasty, lovely salad and ok steak tartare. When we received the cheese board the waiter did not say what any of the cheese is (and this is not on the menu)- same with the charcuterie despite paying premium prices for these. For the steak tartare it came with spices and an egg yolk- no one told us what they were or how to mix this- very much serve yourself and figure it out. When we mentioned these two items and the generally slow service to the manager she was extremely rude, blamed us (said we were “chugging” wine when we’d had two glasses each, that it was more of a bar not restaurant and also said the service is always this way so we shouldn’t expect any better any other time… i think this probably gives you your answer but would strongly not recommend - we were looking for a special night to celebrate an occasion and it was totally ruined by the staff and handling. food is ok but don’t put yourself through it there are lots of great spots...
Read moreBizarre experience. Came here as a solo diner tonight, 11/17. Almost immediately felt unwelcome and awkward when I couldn’t find a spot at the bar, despite it being relatively slow. Found a stool and moved it to a clear spot away from the couple other groups gathered around the bar. Was told rather coldly that I probably shouldn’t sit there because of prep space needed for making drinks, when there was plenty of space for said drinks. Moved awkwardly to the side until it seemed like I wasn’t in the way somehow. Literally stared straight ahead and waited for any acknowledgment of my presence. Was just about to leave after 5-7 minutes of nothing when a server/bar back asked if I wanted food. No greeting. Never gave me a menu to look at. I was feeling so weird so I said no and decided I’d just get one drink since it was pouring outside. The bartender finally acknowledged me and opened up when I asked them how their night was going. But why am I the one having to begin the exchange? I worked in high end hospitality for years and if the servers want to give an impression of sophistication and integrity, show a little warmth. Otherwise, it just seems like they’re not qualified to be in a front-facing role. Drink (nonalcoholic Negroni) was nice and well-prepared. Not sure about the food since I lost interest from the weird vibes. To make things weirder, it seemed like the server/bar back (not the bartender who made my drink; they were cool once I got my drink) could definitely hold conversations with others at the bar. They talked to a few couples, knew their backstories, etc. I honestly don’t even know what this person was doing because they weren’t making drinks or serving. They clearly had the skills to talk to people, but it seemed so selective. Too bad. I’ve recommended this place before but will no longer. Was going to come here for an anniversary but no way now. Once again, WEIRD, unwelcoming, almost mean-spirited vibes. Management, talk...
Read moreI’ve never had a more rude or uncomfortable service experience than coming here. The ambience is delightful and I liked the wine I tried (food was fine), but the blonde server was extremely cold from the second I walked in, and every ask seemed like an imposition. She handed me the regular menu when I sat at the bar, but I overheard someone at a table order from the happy hour menu (after I’d already ordered a full-price wine). I grabbed a happy hour menu from a nearby table and mentioned to her, “I didn’t get the happy hour menu!” She gave me such a death glare that I’m shocked I didn’t turn to stone on the spot. Then she rolled her eyes and resumed making cocktails for others, slamming the shaker down on the bar repeatedly. I made sure to order food from the other server when she was not around because I really couldn’t handle another interaction with her. I thought maybe it was just me, but I struck up a conversation with another solo diner at the bar and they said they’d almost left due to the same thing, but the rainy weather kept them around! I’m also seeing other reviews here mentioning similar experiences. The strangest part was that I saw when I received the bill that she actually ended up giving me the happy hour price on my wine. This was a generous gesture, but I’d much rather have paid full price and not been at the tail end of the weirdest misplaced wrath I’ve ever had at a restaurant. I also heard her complaining to another server that another patron had left drops of his cocktail on the table where he was sitting. You couldn’t pay me to come here again, despite the...
