Beijing Hot Pot is my favorite restaurant in Portland, my partner and I come here about twice a month. We get the veggie platter for two and the spinach dumplings with the spicy broth on both sides. We let our wonderful server know we are vegan and she was really knowledgeable and accommodating. The veggie platter comes with a HUGE assortment of mushrooms, lettuces, noodles and so much more. The spicy broth is our favorite because it is extremely flavorful, while still being light and not overly salty. The veggie spinach dumplings are so addicting and yummy, we highly recommend them. The price for this large variety of food is so reasonable, it's a steal! Veggie platter for two is $25 , dumplings are $5 and beers are $3! It takes us about an hour and a half to eat all of this food, if you're wanting fast food, I think you're best off going somewhere else. The sweet women who works by herself works her booty off! I am always seeing her accommodate the customers with a smile and swiftness to meet their needs. She really cares about this place and it shows. She always remembers what we order, gives us tea as soon as we sit down and makes great conversation.. we really like her. If you're thinking of eating at this place, do it! You will not be...
Read moreHidden away inside a chinese enclave off of 82nd Ave, Beijing Hot Pot was a good experience. They have these ancient, well worn hot pots that sit in the middle of your table and it's all natural gas burning. When you order a meal for 1 or 2 they give you a few different ingredients that seem like small portions, then they bring out the sliced meat. I appreciated that the server told me how long I should boil the ingredients without me asking.
Compared to Hot Pot City, this place is much, so much cleaner. The bathroom needed some wall and door scrubbing (melamine sponge people) but it was clean where it counted. Hot Pot City on the other hand is disgusting in that arena.
The portions were smaller, this is true, but the food was of good quality and I felt safer eating here than other hot pots. I'm taking a star off because of some cross contamination issues I saw such as the server also acting as cashier but not changing her latex gloves between the time she served my food and taking my credit card and handing me a pen. That's a good way to get ecoli but compared to every other hot pot I've been to... this place is cleaner.
Not a buffet. You pay for what you get. Still, it was a...

The ceramic top in the middle of the table. The smell is probably gonna overwhelm you. The lingering smell of something you can't quite pin down, greatness.
The spicy broth is so frickin perfect you will question things. Like why are my mouth and lips simultaneously spicy and hot at once but I can't stop? Why is everything tasty spicy? Why are there so many edible mushrooms that taste good spicy? Then after the flurry of questions in the peak heat of spice, clarity. It subsides. The spice wanes. You realize you have more to throw in the Hot Pot.
No alcohol and I think that's a good idea. You're already burning your table mates with scalding broth as you battle over Bok Choy and thin strips of delicious pork and beef. Your spouse becomes your enemy, your broth spoon becomes your ally. There are no friends at the Hot Pot it quickly is realized; there are only obstacles in the path of Hot Pot...
