I would usually give 5 stars to this location - for over 4 years, I have enjoyed and looked forward to the service of the blonde bartender who works here any time I have a trip.
Today there was a different, white, dark-haired woman who was interestingly very curt to the me (Indian woman) and another Asian women who came up to the bar, but had energy for a lovely welcoming Hello to the white man who approached after when I was there. She was also spoke nicely to one of the white lady coworkers.
I sat at the bar with my food as I usually do, to eat and then use Priority Pass to pay at the end. Her first words to me were “Have you checked out at the market?” making me feel like there was no possibility I was her potential customer and as if I was sneaking food.
When the Asian lady approached, the woman asked if there was food here, and this bartender indicated the food in the refrigerated sections. She managed to leave out that there was hot food that could be warmed up in the bakery, and certainly made no offers to the Asian lady in case she wanted a drink. I had to do her job for her and let the Asian lady know there is also hot food and she can use $28 on Priority Pass. The Asian lady did then wind up getting her hot food.
The black lady who served the frittata to me and checked me out was lovely. 💕
I would highly recommend moving the lady who served as bartender today between the hours of 2-2:40pm to a role away from direct customer interaction. Her performance based on race was less...
Read moreI stop by the Capers Market for something to eat & drink. It took a while to figure where to place my order, I tried to ask the 3 people behind the counter but they were talking and not know which person I should address. I walked around the bar and saw a man standing there waiting for service. One of the 3 walked over to assist the man. I waited on the X for my turn and once she answered the man’s questions. I noticed he asked a question and the waitress (?) wasn’t nice or helpful.
He went to view the grab and go; thinking I was next, Ha! Was I wrong!!! I stepped up to the cashier and waited for someone to wait on me. The cashier went back to the other sides to talk to another cashier/someone who works there (?).
I called out hello, no body answered, but someone who was behind the counter saw me and tried to get one of the cashier attention.
Nothing, zip, zero...nobody came over to help me.
The group of cashiers were talking and glanced my way, but never came over to help!
I said screw this and went on my way, As I was walking away a cashier looked at me and continued talking to the other cashiers. I saw the Hopworks Brewery and stop to see where to order, a young lady greeted me, told me what’s available and was very pleasant.
I will tell all my family and friends who fly frequently into PDX what happened at the Capers Market and they should avoid this establishment, because you will not be treated kindly!
Take a lesson from Hopworks Brewery, and...
Read moreGrabbed some delicious breakfast before boarding my flight! The veggie quiche was delicious, very flavorful and fresh (looks as good as the pics!). I'm glad I went with the bartender's recommendation on ordering the quiche over the frittata (which didn't look very appetizing).
The bartender was very nice and showed me the veggie lasagna container from the refrigerated section of the market before I ordered it. Although it was made a few days ago and not the freshest, it was tasty and flavorful. Wish it had a larger portion size and came with a side salad. I would skip the lasagna and go with the veggie quiche!
Before sitting down, I recommend taking a look at all the baked goods from the display case and refrigerated section and then deciding what to get. Not all items that you see are featured on the menu.
Would definitely come back for another...
