Our migrant children from HI to OR invited us to dim sum 'dinner' somewhere in Tigard, but when I Googled the menu, there were really only 5 choices of Taiwanese-style potstickers in soup. Hey, when you say "we go eat dim sum", that, to me back home in HI, means having an entire menu of over 25 items to choose from, the tiered bamboo steam baskets are brought out on carts, and it's only served during lunch! Excellent Cuisine came very close to offering a full menu, although during the evening they don't make any fried items, such as fried taro puffs or fried shrimp balls; just steamed or baked choices like manapua (char siu bao), shanghai shrimp dumplings, bean curd rolls, no half moon or pepeiao but OHH, their pork hash are HUGE! They call it pork & shrimp dumplings (siu mai), but in HI we just call them pork hash. Food came out very fast! The sizzling platter was 'ono and flavorful, the walnut shrimp was tasty, the noodles were perfect, and the dim sum just brought back memories of home to my children! Like the other posts, the place was very nice and clean, located in Kings Plaza on Division St., but it's EMPTY. Looks like they have karaoke, too, but they could at least get rid of the cheesy Asian pop music videos during dinner. I called to make reservations, and the guy told me to just come in; they won't be busy. Boy was he right! While we were there, a few people came in to order take out, and another party of 4 came in when we were leaving (they looked like they were regulars), but that was it. I took off one star because of the laxed workers who were too bored to even care that we were sitting there ready to order, or we were needing more water. Otherwise, my children said they'd come back here to order food for dinner or lunch; maybe not to sit and dine in knowing how extremely vacant it is, but rather to take out. Ohh...and another thing they didn't have, that my oldest son was craving for, was Minute Chicken w/Cake Noodle. There's only one place he found in Portland that has it. I guess it's more of local Hawaiian thing, like manapua, pork hash, half moon...

We were met at the entrance by a man who seemed to be surprised that two men of color wanted to dine in. We were sat at a table near the kitchen entrance with nothing on it. He rudely asked what we wanted to drink, my son said water I said a Tsingtao. He asked for my ID which he scrutinized as though it was fake and I was making a withdrawal of a $10000 . He returned 10 mins later with both and I asked for a glass for the beer and he rolled his eyes and sighed. The first cart came (the only cart) and we took the BBQ-pork baos and chow main . Baos were doughy and hardly had any pork and the chow main was scorched. We watched for 20-25 mins as different carts came from a different kitchen door and went to every table except for ours. There was even a server with a cart behind my son and I made eye contact with her and she turned and went in the opposite direction. We noticed that other tables had menus with the listed items being offered; we had none. I went to the counter to get one and tried for 10 mins to flag down a waitress. When she came we ordered 3 items , shrimp dumplings , pork and shrimp dumplings and spare ribs. Shrimp dumplings were slimy on the outside and the shrimp was a "paste". Spare ribs was a bowl of anemic bones and gristle .We didn't finish ANYTHING it was so horrible. When we went to the counter to pay there were no prices listed anywhere but the cashier figured it was $49.95. I gave her my card, she gave me the bill , I signed it , she took it and walked away. No thank you, no good- bye , no nothing. The food quality was not excellent and the service was anything but excellent. We have been all over the world and never have had an experience like that one. Shame on you Excellent Cuisine Chinese...
Read more01/31/2022: 4.75 out of 5 - It was going to be the Year of the Tiger, so why not celebrate the Lunar New Year at Excellent Cuisine, right?
I came here in the past when it was Wong's King. Therefore this was my first time experiencing Excellent Cuisine.
Masks are required which is expected, but this establishment isn't partaking in any of the Social Discrimination Policies that some restaurant owners/management are choosing to do.
Excellent Cuisine is a Chinese restaurant with plated dishes with dim sum options that is all served family-style.
The staff were friendly, well-mannered, clean, attentive, quick and responsive; professional.
As mentioned, we were there for the Eve of the Lunar New Years with a group of 12. So, that means there was A LOT OF FOOD to consume. Every dish was plated well. Excellent Cuisine does have an impressive wine selection, but we were able to bring in our wines. Overall, every dish that was brought out was just not very good...it was excellent.
All in all, at the end of any meal I often will ask, "Would you come back?" My answer if given the opportunity? Most likely since the staff are great, the food and drinks are tasty, and the establishment doesn't partake in any form of discrimination.
Although Wong's King is gone, we're very pleased that another restaurant was able to come in and exceed the benchmark that was left. I'm not Chinese, but I have an affinity for varieties of good food. Excellent Cuisine exceeded my expectations.
So, if you ever get a chance, definitely try it once and decide for...
