I've been going here regularly for some time. the coffee is good and the pastries are also delicious, which is why they are fasting 2 stars and not just 1. The service/wait time if you order anything from the kitchen is unbelievably and painfully slow. I only order simple breakfast sandwiches and the lady several times I've ordered in person (for to-go food) it took a laughably long time and i was late for work unnecessarily. So this morning I decided to save time and annoyance and order my breakfasts sandwich for pickup. I got to the ciunyer literally 40 minutes after placing my order and was shocked to find out it hadn't even been started....WTF... late for work again. I am taking my business elsewhere. Highly recommend to others to get your breakfast sandwiches at the Better Half cart just down the street. Cheaper, faster and more delicious, and there are plenty of other places to get pastries too. If you aren't coming in to sit down your order will be shoved to the back of the line consistently at grand central. for the cost they charge... not worth it!

Update after 50 minutes after order placed it all want done. The counter person lied to me twice about the progess of the order and then tried to pass the buck. I asked for a refund which they said they processed but it still hasn't been received. They have...

Asian customers want coffee too.

First of all, I want to say how much I love this bakery. It has been my favorite in the U.S. for many years, and I always look forward to visiting whenever I can. The quality of your food and the warm atmosphere consistently bring me joy.

My husband and I recently visited the Cedar Mill location for Mother’s Day brunch. We both ordered regular coffee, but the self-service pot was empty. I let a staff member know and waited for a new pot to be brewed. While I was still waiting, my husband returned to our table with a fresh cup of coffee. He told me that an employee made it for him using the espresso machine.

While I understand how busy they must have been that morning, I couldn’t help but feel it was unfair that he received his coffee much more quickly through special assistance while I continued to wait. It may have been a simple coincidence, but I hope that all customers are treated with the same level of service and care. I want to gently mention that I’m Asian and my husband is Caucasian. This may not have been a factor, but I felt it was important to share my perspective.

I’m sharing this feedback not to complain but in the hope that it can lead to greater awareness. I truly appreciate this...

First of all I am a regular who had Been coming to the Fremont location for a number of years. Generally I have had great service however that was not the case today. I ordered my butter croissant and requested it to be toasted as it has been done countless times at this location and other Portland area locations- the cashier stated said she would not toast it because she “did not feel like it” and sometimes other people do it when they feel nice.

I was extremely disturbed to hear this especially as we are closing in the holidays (mid December) as I have never had a disrespectful interaction before especially at this location.

I will not return to this specific location even though it is across the street for me. I will drive to another location which is abit out of the way however I feel this specific store does not deserve my hard earned money. I urge anyone else to avoid this Grand Central Bakery as well.

I feel it could have been handled the correct way and the way it was chosen was not only disturbing but utterly embarrassing as it was “her way or no way”

I would like someone from Grand Central Bakery company to contact me if they would like more Information on...

I want to love this location, but this is the second time I’ve ordered a breakfast biscuit ($8.00), only to be told they are out of biscuits and I can “sub” a croissant, only to find out the “substitution” increases the cost to over $11.00. In the big scheme, the $3.00 is pretty negligible, but it feels wrong to be charged more for something you really didn’t want in the first place. If you are out of a menu item, DON’T charge your customers $3 extra to “sub” it out. Especially without mentioning the cost increase. The sandwich was a solid 6.5/10. In addition, the self serve coffee was empty and never refilled during my time there, despite several customers asking.

Update (Sep 2021): Back in town and had a lunch sandwich at this Grand Central. So happy that their indoor space os open now and they still have the fantastic outdoor patio. My turkey sandwich was fresh and delicious, the chutney sauce was the highlight. Though the portion seems a bit small. Original (Feb 2021): I like this Grand Central location because of the big seating area outside. Usually I'll get a sourdough bread or baguette. The other day I had a lunch sandwich here, and took home a potato bread upon recommendations. The potato bread turned out really yummy. Grand Central means consistently good bread regardless which store you go, love it.

I do love me some Grand Central sandwiches and to pick up a loaf and a latte but today was the kick off of their BLT! Don’t walk….RUN! These BLT’s are the best I’ve ever had (side from my homemade, maybe)! Amazing crispy bacon, buttery crispy como bread, only the best…Best Foods mayo, fresh lettuce and the star of the show…JUICY salt and peppered heirloom tomatoes, super thick cut so they are nearly the star of the show! Damn they sourced the perfect BLT tomato! Damn that was a killer sandwich I’m still thinking about hours after lunch! 9.9/10! *side note they are expensive but worth every penny*
