This is the first review I have left for a place that I have been to several times over the decades (yes, the decades). My first experience with Jim Dandies dates all the way back to 1972 when I was just a poor college student. But they have always been consistent and put out a tasty product with fresh ingredients and awesome milkshakes. Today was no exception. I ordered a basic Bacon Cheeseburger with Tater Tots. The sesame seed bun was soft and fresh. The lettuce 🥬 fresh and crispy. The onions were fresh and did not overpower the flavor of the burger. The burger was a 1/4 lb. Patty and grilled perfectly. You do have the option of requesting the level of doneness. The Bacon was meaty and flavorful. It was crispy and not limp. American cheese was added. They have a house “secret sauce” that they use. The tots were cooked perfectly crunchy on the outside and soft and hot in the middle. The interior looks just like it has for decades but it is clean and orderly. The floors, walls, booths, chairs. Etc have all been well maintained. The nostalgia is thick. It is not a car hop type of place but it certainly has much Portland culture and history on the walls. There are periodic car rallies and shines. The staff were awesome, friendly and attentive. There is a Vegan menu. They have updated and added a couple of corners which contain gaming machines. Minors only signs are posted. Are the expensive gourmet burgers 🍔 nope !!! But the prices are great and the food is tasty. I will continue to return here over more years. Think I should have a meal of Tots and a Chocolate Shake next time !!!

This is an old drive in burger joint from the 30's. They have original burgers and other menu items such as a green river soda (one of my favorites). They do have ice cream items too. They have slot machines. All ages are welcome. I did take a picture a large part of the menu. I also took pictures of some event that will be going on this summer. Every year they have events. A neat thing you see when you walk in is all the memorabilia they have ALL over in the building. I think they also have older video games (like packman) that you can play. This is my #1 place in town to get a burger. On the other hand the older lady at the register wasn't friendly when I called to order. I asked if she could tell me about the milkshakes she has. She said there are too many and she doesn't have time to go through them. When I got to the restaurant (5min later) no customers were in there, just myself. We ended up not ordering milkshakes. If you like this review please give it a thumbs up.

Step back in time and relax in this old time burger shop, it’s like a living time capsule just full of history. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Great place for date night with the wife. We had bacon a cheeseburgers fries and a chocolate shake . This is a must see place when in Portland Highly recommended. Definitely worth it. Went back for a second time and just like the first time it was excellent the burgers are fries were delicious. Lots of memories to look at while you wait for your food. Love this place.

My friend (who had my car) accidently locked the keys in,while he and his daughter were eating there. I came from Gresham, in second car with spare key. Pulled up, got out to give him key. Some young man came flying out the back, yelling at me to move my car,or he would have me towed. Told him just a moment, as I was just giving friend key, but he was persistent. NOW, he demanded! Which flustered me, and I actually ended up locking MY keys in second car. No kidding! Mind you, I'm 65 yrs old fluster easily. Still trying to get key, to friend, for first car, young man kept coming out yelling at me I better move or he was calling tow truck. When I told him I had now locked key in second car and would have friend go back to Gresham, before I could move car, that he claimed was parked illegally. He lost it. By the way, there was NOT a no parking sign where I was parked in fact, to the left was a 'Customer Parking Only' others will be towed. I took pictures for proof. Long story short I had to stand by my car in the hot sun while my friend ran back to Gresham for spare key for second car, for fear Jim Dandy employee would have car towed. Even though legally, I don't think he could. I stood there for over an hour, no tow truck came, so he was just being mean. Why would he treat an elderly disabled woman so cruel? I've been going there since before he was born. I will NEVER go back. Footnote: I had tried to go in a tAlk to the young man and he actually accused me of purposely taking 2 hours to come and help my friends and purposely locking my keys in the car AFTER, he told me to move it. I may be elderly, but I am of sound mind, and this young man was talking nonsense. I just walked out. Will never go back. Neither will any friends or...

I used to absolutely love this diner! And to the owner reading this please don't get me wrong your diner is still amazing but today 03/30/19 at 10 AM the woman working your front counter is beyond judgmental, discrimination is an understatement okay! First off when you have video poker machines your required to provide a restroom so why is it demanded that food be purchased? And secondly she had and has absolutely no right to be ignorant to customers in this store just because they would like to use the restroom! She made every excuse and argument she could think of to not give me the key!And after stalling for an extra 5 by saying there was a customer in the bathroom, she then proceeded to pull the key out of her pocket to give it to me! I thought there was someone in there! I feel so far beyond violated and even though the food here was an absolute favorite of mine I unfortunately will have to refuse to return for now. Your current employees need a massive lesson on customer service! Your old crew a couple of years ago made that place feel like home you really lost a certain touch when you lost them. and I firmly believe that you most likely have and are going to continue to lose customers due to the attitude those women portray. It's their job the should probably stop acting like people are being a burden I'm 26 years old and I work my a*s off and I have never treated a customer in such a disgusting manner so please please please fix this 🙏 I would love to be a regular again it is such a great place to go for any meal and relax! In the mean time,I will...
