I know the owner and frequent this coffee shop and he is always incredibly helpful and kind so it pains me to leave this review. However, I have to rate 2 stars for my experience in the shop today. I met a friend for a date and we ordered the Superfood smoothie and a Spanish mocha. Smoothie and coffee were great. The service however was appalling. Just terrible. After sitting and enjoying our beverages for about an hour the barista (tall white gentlemen, dark hair with a mullet-type haircut) came over and told us at 3:59pm that the coffee shop was closed. We knew the shop closed at 4pm so I’m not sure why he felt the need to say this. But as we were finishing our drinks and conversation not even 5 minutes later, the barista came up to us for the second time and said he “has some major cleaning to do soooo…” insinuating that we needed to hurry and leave. Right before this interaction I heard him ask his girlfriend (who is sitting at the bar gawking at us because she can’t believe we are still there at 4:02pm) if she is going to have a beer with him. If I had major cleaning to do and customers were finishing drinks, I probably wouldn’t be pouring myself a beer and would definitely be cleaning every other area surrounding final customers. I am a woman of color who has worked in the service industry for years… this customer service was totally off-putting, uninviting, hostile to say the least. My friend is also a person of color. I am leaving this review in hopes that Bob sees this and can address it because no person should be treated this way after supporting the business and finishing a dining experience. We proceeded to leave politely and the barista’s girlfriend who mind you is NOT an employee came and shut the door on us two seconds after exiting. You should not have a job if you treat your customers this way. Period. Truly disappointing experience for such a...
Read moreI have wanted to go here for a long time for the breakfast and also they're one of the only places on Alberta that actually has smoothies.
My only complaint is that I wish they would stay open longer cuz man I would love to have smoothies from these folks specially later on in the day. Especially in the evening.
I'm just not a morning person.
For The times they are Open you are in for a treat because they also have this new store next to it that's open that is an antique store and it's really amazing too I still haven't got around to going into it but that's only because I'm moving out of the country soon.
The inside of the store seriously is like Harry Potter or probably more British ask I think and so it's just a really cool place to be.
We came in right at the cusp of closing and they had absolutely no problem taking our order and we're really cool about it.
And my order was literally made in less than a few minutes so wow they are really quick too!
They have wonderful outside seating as well they also have the outside heaters too.
If you'd like to smoke a cigar with your morning coffee they have ashtrays.
It seems like they really do care about all customers so I really would go ahead and give this place a try if you haven't yet. It's like one of those Little gems that you really need to go to that is the brilliance of the Alberta arts district.
I can't wait to go there again and see what else they have.
They also serve coffee as well from what I understand and some special coffee drinks I haven't tried them yet but I...
Read more3 stars mostly for generosity and the speed I actually received my food. The most important takeaways I noticed:
-I watched the barista on bar make multiple drinks for the 7 people in front of me in line and not once did the shot glass get rinsed out in between the pulling of any shots, talk about grind crime. Seeing this instantly made me decide to not order a coffee, which I had been planning on.
-cream cheese tubs just sitting in a plastic container with no cooling mechanism on the counter and not a bagel in site getting smeared. It made me wonder if it’s reaching above 41 degrees and they’re serving warm af cream cheese to custies and giving them bubble guts.
-the Belgian waffle tasted like pancake mix put into a waffle maker. For those who can’t tell the difference you’ll love this, but as a Belgian waffle lover I laughed out loud at my home upon taking my first bite. It was still tasty, but it was not a Belgian waffle.
The overall experience was mid at best but I appreciate the hustle of those working, they boosted what would’ve been a...
